I'm a (very) little OCD when it comes to a clean house. It's never spotless, but it's never nasty either! I can't stand to live with filthy stuff. I live a somewhat minimalist lifestyle so there is never any clutter (aside from designated clutter areas, mostly nick-nacks).

I HATE to do the dishes and to clean the litter box. My first job was washing dishes at a pizza restaurant. I swore after a year working there I had washed enough dishes in my life and would try to avoid them for the rest of my life!

If it's bad you should return it to the store and get your money back.

I wish I could be a minimalist but I am in my mom's house. I think anyone who lives in a carpeted place without a vacuum but 4 TVs should give all their TVs away in exchange for a vacuum. I wish I could sell all the junk in my mom's house, including the room I am currently using. I am getting rid of everything I've had since high school and with that hopefully it will help to get out of here ASAP. I hate cleaning someone's house who doesnt appreciate it and doesn't realize how cluttered they are.

LOL ^ honey, you have just spoken to my heart. :D

We actually do have 2 vacuums, however. One, I call a baby vacuum that is about as old as me (55 yrs old) with a baby nozzle - 3" X 1/4". It DOES have excellent sucking power, but it takes about an hour to vacuum a good medium sized room.
I was recently gifted (by an amazingly kind person) with an amount of money in an Amazon account...and my FIRST purchase...after significant research and study...was a Very Good vacuum cleaner which specializes in getting up pet hair and taking away odor (through a HEPA carbon filter, whatever that is). Anyway, since I've been immobilized (with the cast) I have not been able to do my usual housecleaning...and my 92 year old mother could probably live in a cat litter box and not smell anything nor be bothered at all!!! In her room, every single square inch of EVERY surface (except the floor, which does have a little wiggle-room) has lots and lots of stuff. To say it is cluttered is greatly understating it.
We play a game in the kitchen where I will have it spotless, the 100 vitamin bottles in a cabinet, spices stored away, etc...and then I'm able to turn my back or just go outside for about 30 minutes and she can mess it up quicker than a 2 yr. old. For the past couple of months she has had full reign in there. Not only does my mother not consider it "cluttered", she PREFERS it that way. :(
At the very tip top of my to-do list, when I'm able to just limp around, I'm going to be vacuuming, cleaning (mopping) floors, and well, just getting down to the literal nitty-gritty of all of this!
I really can't say, like you, that I'll be getting out of here ASAP because well, I have no plans for that...but I really do understand...and I WILL be getting this place back to a nice clean state ASAP.

I WISH I could make a list (like you, Dixie)...but it would be so long, the post might get kicked back. ;)

Oye Vey... I still have to get laundry out of the dryer, scoop litter, and do dishes. I'm dog tired. I did extra cleaning, sorting, storing, and re-arranging today.

I'm digging out of clutter. I once thought it was insurmountable but it is getting done.

Lynn...I just read that you live on the GA/SC state line, is that correct. I effin' love cleaning people's places, believe it or not. I did caregiving and nanny work and I really love to organize and clean, as long as the person I'm cleaning for is not my mom or my ex...people who bitch at you for cleaning or not cleaning up after them fast enough...anyway, let me know if you need help. I even had cleaning parties back in my pre-parenting days.

You mean they will have to dig your 5 day stinking corpse out of the clutter?

I know a firefighter who had to go into a hoarder's apartment to play a game of find the smelly corpse, he was the rookie so they made him do it. :D

I so greatly appreciate you offering this! Only we'd have to drug and gag my mother, which the law would (no doubt) frown upon. As tempting as the offer is :D, at this point I'm afraid I'll have to say thanks anyway. However, they may be a point in the future, I'll be sending out a SOS (via pm :)).

(And yes, that is exactly right...I do live very near the line - at the Hartwell, GA/SC line.)

I need to do a few dishes and clean the bathroom. After that my house will be spotless, at least for a few days. I've been nesting this week. I cleaned out the fridge and microwave, swept and mopped all the tile floors, vacuumed all the carpet, dusted every piece of furniture and all the ceiling fans.

I have a long haired dog, so things like sweeping and vacuuming are unfortunately neverending. I really really really want one of those crazy robot vacuums that moves around the house by itself all day.
