Name a good, classic rock band, that isn't very mainstream and you don't think a lot of people have heard of them.

I'd like some new music to add to my collection.

    Shoot.

hmm....well, here's what I dig. IMO, I think some are underrated

    Quicksilver Messenger Service
    13th Floor Elevators
    Love
    The Seeds
    Blue Cheer
    Traffic
    Paul Butterfield Blues Band

    ....for starters

Hmmm, Try to define what exactly you mean by classic rock. What dollydagger posted was more what I think would be classic psychedelic rock, is that what you want? Or are you looking for stuff more in the fashion of Sabbath, or Alice Cooper, Allman bros Band?....Is there a particular style you seek? Or are you open to anything?

I'm very open-minded musically. I like a wide variety of stuff, as long as it's good music. Classic Psychedellic Rock is great.

Thanks Dagger, I'll check some of that stuff out tonight :D

well this is going to sound wrong but look deep into the grateful dead's albums you'll find a good amount of songs that aren't mainstream

Why does it need to be "non-mainstream" that not a lot of people have heard of?

Wishbone Ash. Many have heard the name, but most dont have a clue as to the music. Started in 1970, and 38 years later, with 25 studio albums and many live and compilation albums, they are still recording and touring today.

I'm a SHE and I'm just saying I know most main-stream classic rock, but I'm sure there's a lot of less common Classic Rock bands I've never heard of.

ANYWAY thanks for the replies, I'm checking some of these out now :D

Steamhammer! Nobody have heard of them, and they're really good.
If you don't know Quicksilver Messenger Service, you should try them for sure. One of my favourites :)
    Bakerloo!
Aguaturbia! This band's really obscure, sixties pyschedelic rock from Chile :D, awesome guitar though. Blues for the westside is fantastic.

when i used to listen to classic rock (back when i thought i was born in the wrong time period and the 70s were the coolest thing ever) i used to really listen to a lot of Rory Gallagher. hes an Irish Blues Rock guitar player out of Ireland and other than Jimmy Page or Hendrix in the classic rock genre, few are as good as him if any. i would check him out for sure, i liked him more than a lot of the mainstream classic rock bands...his DVD "Irish Tour 74'" is awesome.

a few other notables that also are worth a listen include:

    Paul Butterfield Blues Band
    Eric Burden
    America
The Byrds (i cant believe nobody has said them yet, they are mainstream as hell and they kick ass!)

A few that spring to mind, and fit more into that 'Classic Rock' mould... Not exactly "non-mainstream" or anything, but I don't think that enough people give them a good listen, are..

The Faces (A Nod is as Good as a Wink.. To a Blind Horse)
    Free (Fire And Water)
    Mountain (Climbing!)
    Montrose (Montrose)
    Robin Trower (Bridge Of Sighs)

I've put the album recommendation in brackets.
