Hello!! So, when people think of hippy's they think about drugs! I don't use any drugs at all, and never had! I don't even smoke! Though, I like the hippy-lifestyle (without drugs of course!) Clothing, music, and the way they think of life! What do you guys think? Are you a hippy when you don't use any drugs?
it's the same as the hair issue it doesn't make you a hippy when you say that you like the way they look at life most of that is derived from drug use being able to see life in a different way but drugs don't make you a hippy
hahahaha..yes, that is the truth the sad, yet evident truth.. =] it doesn't matter what you do as long as your views on life are hippy-like. but, i believe that someone already told you that.
Can you do drugs and not be a hippie? Of course! The thing about hippiedom is that, if you are looking at it as "I have todo this to be a hippie" or "I can't do that it isn't very hippie like" then it is no differant than the 13 year old goths hanging outside of hot topic. in my opinion, being a hippie is a mindset (not I refrained form saying state of mind, haha). If you enbrace the label, that's awesome! But it is really just another word and doesn't matter. I'm stoned right now, but they are nerve pills prescribed to me (I'm not abusing them...).
Hey, why not be open minded and try it? You just might like it. But seriously, just be who you are. Who cares if you're a hippie or not? You're you, right? There you go. You shouldn't aspire to a label, there's nothing real about that.
i think you said it best so far. a lot of ppl think hippies dont shower and smell, just cuz u smell and dont shower doesnt mean ur a hippy and if u shower doesnt make u not a hippy

dude, I known exactly how you feel. I was perscribed some really high dosages of Topamax (anti-convulsant) for my migraines...it completely fucked me up. Needless to say I'm offa them. A day in bed here or there is nothing compared to permanent zombie-hood/constantly being stoned. Not the good kind of stoned either...
And if ya don't like drugs? Then just doing them to be considered a hippy? hmmm..... I don't agree...

lots of folks in the counter culture had purity trips: back to the landers, all natual foodies, practitioners of various imported religions (Xtianity among the imports). While one group was saying chemical Y is the gate to enlightenment, others advocated chem Q or absinence. It's all about looking to change for an inclusive better. if not chemmically altering your brain does it for you, great. if you need that flash of insight from the jewel-encrusted machine elves, great.
