cleaning a metal pipe. how easy is it?

so I put my metal pipe into a bowl that I eat cereal out of and filled it up with rubbing alcohol and put plastic wrap over it. how long should I leave it sitting in there? when I take it out do I still gotta scrape the stuff out? how hard is it to clean it 100%? I want it 100% no resin like it is brand new shiny metal pipe.

I can take the pipe apart and clean it at all angles. would running soap and water through it clean the resin out without me even having to scrape it out if its been sitting in that alcohol?

 

I have a metal pipe too. I always take my apart and use a knife and paper clip to get the black shit out. I've never used rubbing alcohol before. How long till you can use it again? Alcohol and flame?

 

You could put some rubbing alcohol and salt into the pipe, cover the holes with your fingers, and shake it for a few minutes. That'll get it pretty clean.

Or you can just do what you're doing, except take the plastic off of the bowl and just let the alcohol evaporate. After the alcohol evaporates, all of the resin will be in the cereal bowl and your pipe will be clean.

 

yeah screw cleaning that way haha. takes forever even when its heated up and you still can never get 100% all the tar out that way.

 

I'd be nervous with rubbing Alcoho,l and then smoking out of it latter on. I don't want my face to catch on fire or something. lol

 

haha nice!!! the salt idea was wonderful. even on google I did not see that pop up. I am sure it works cus I made a lightbulb vaporizer before and used salt to clean the frost out of the frosted lightbulb.

 

I am sure if 100% the tar is gone then rinsing it with water will take all the alcohol of it.

the reason I am cleaning my pipe is cus I had a old moldy half drinked coke in my room I forgot about in the corner and I spilled it on my pipe and that nasty moldy soda sticks to resin real good and I don't wanna risk that stuff mixing with my smoke haha. so yeah I have to clean it 100% haha. not even 1 pin point of resin left in there haha.

 

Rubbing alcohol evaporates pretty quickly.

 

get a glass pipe....its much easier....tastes much better!!!

yeah I have to agree that other than durability that glass is a better pipe. the metal screen in metal pipes get clogged up very often and makes it very hard to get fat rips unless the screen is cleaned often. metal pipe is good for hiking and rock climbing cus you don't have to worry about banging your pockets on rocks n stuff.

now what do you mean by much easier though? both are easy to smoke out of haha?

and i'd say metal is easier to clean since you can take it apart. and metal the screen makes it a lot harder inhale ash. glass pipes the hole can let ash through sometimes.

I was saying glass is easier to clean. But you are right about metal being easier for doing the active stuff....I usually use my dugout in situations like that. Its portable and I usually can just pull a pipe cleaner through it.

I use this stuff called grunge off....I soak my glass and metal in it for a couple of hours... I shit you not when I take it out and rinse it will hot water, ALL the resin comes out. No scrubbing or anything....it just runs right out. Ever since I have never used anything else.

 

^ id take a pipe like that, never take it apart.. place on stove burner til glowing red. Allow to cool for a long time before picking up..

 

my father actually taught me that trick....the resin just oozes out of it.

 

Simple Green is the best for cleaning pipes.. especially glass... it will leave you with a shiny clean bowl... much better than iso & salt

 

here it is, I say it is pretty well cleaned out, their is alittle bit of resin. but I'm ok with that

 

I've heard good things about Simple Green. Formula 420 works great too.
