Anyone wash there shrooms to make sure they are not dirty before they eat them? Last time I did shrooms they didn't look to clean and I got some stomach cramps, would washing shrooms have any negative side effects to the shrooms?
no.. washing them in cold water wouldnt hurt. but you might want to eat them ASAP after you do so... I harldy believe you got sick by eating a little bit of soil, Vermiculite.. But you never know...
I pinched off the parts that had cow shit all over them, prolyl saved me a good bity of agitation. The Mushroom Man
My shrooms have been grown and packaged for selling commercially in Amsterdam so they're always clean. If I got them from somewhere else I'd probably clean them first though. Use cold water as opposed to hot.
aw man cleaning all those damn things was such a task when i used to grow. i would lay them out on magazines and just cut off the verm and stuff at the base with a knife. don't wash them though, mushrooms are 90% water lol.
it's not really the verm and dirt i'm worried about, that's natural. I'm worried about how my connection keeps them, if he touches them a lot with dirty hand or keeps them in an unsanitary place, etc. Do you guys think just using a wet cloth and wiping them down gently would be good?
just rinse em in cold water.. are you going to dry them? otherwise they will only stay good for a few days.. and stomach cramps is normal with shrooms, they can be expected.
If washing them makes you feel better, then briefly wash them in cold water and eat immediately. However, any washing that won't damage the mushie won't do anything in turns of sanitation. Mushrooms are very porous, so you'd ahve to chemically wash them or heat them to kill the germs on them. washing is not necesary, however. The cramping is just a normal part of eating mushrooms. For somepeople, its worse than others.
i doubt he is keeping them in an unsanitary place if he knows what he's doing. most people that are good at growing mushrooms keep everything really really clean.
