My g/f and I got into a car accident for Christmas last year and ever since my tailbone has been killing me! I can't do anything for to long or it will start hurting, the only thing that has given me a slight bit of relief is melatonin. I was prescribed muscle relaxers but they make me so fucking groggy and bitchy! Has anyone else dealt with this pain? And what are some things I can do to relieve it? I'm trying to avoid having to go to the doctor and getting cortisone injections in my ass.

I thought there were muscle relaxers that didn't have any other marked effects? I don't know any thing about the class (other than that I might like some to relax sometimes, but not enough to bother finding something wrong and getting a script) but I'd heard they had virtually no cognitive effects.

If you don't already, I suggest smoking pot while taking melatonin. If you do smoke pot, I suggest smoking more pot and taking more melatonin :2thumbsup:

Personally, I have an affinity for aspirin for mild pain relief. Shit's also good for your heart, if dosed regularly in small amounts. But I think it's hard on your kidneys, which DON'T heal, unlike your liver.... (Guess I shouldn't take it, I'm diabetic.... dialysis sounds like great fun, nawt) and isn't a good idea to take in pain relief sized doses on a regular basis. But if you need it for one particular event or whatever, you know....

I've had x-rays done and the dr said he didn't really see anything but it was a really shitty x ray. I am in the process of switching lawyers because my last one didn't do shit. I do smoke pot when I have the money to buy it, this accident has fucked everything up financially. You know it may be possible that I have a calcium build up because when I had the x-rays of my head done the dr told me that I retain a lot of calcium in my skull...whatever the fuck that means. It's all a foreign language to me. Hopefully I will be going to a better one soon. I just do not want cortisone shots.

I have been eating ibuprofen like candy! I think I'm immune to them now, so maybe I will try aspirin next.

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that ibuprofen does do very little after taking them for a while, and does have a rather low maximum lifetime dose before causing damage.

I'm not sure if it's hard on the liver or kidneys, you should probably choose between APAP and aspirin by picking the one that's filtered by the one ibuprofen is NOT, at least at first.

And you can switch between ones that target the opposite one daily or for each dose or however often, to let off a little stress on your body.

    I'm no doctor, though.

Also, I thought calcium just meant you had strong bones? :p (now you see WHY I'm not a doctor, I guess)

*edit* while not being a doctor, I just had an idea to make millions: someone needs to make some sort of enzyme blocker that keeps aspirin or APAP or ibuprofen or whatever from being filtered out and metabolized, it would give it a VERY much longer half life, and save you all the organ damage associated with dulling your pain. But I'm sure there's a lot of good reasons why this is impossible and I'm an idiot.

Yeah, ibuprofen does stop working if you take it regularly. I occasionaly get back pain and it no longer works for me.

many years ago, as a claims adjuster, i had a client who had fallen and broken her tail bone at work. i visited her several times...remember, this is maybe 40 years ago...the doctors could do ZERO for her. told her to lay on her stomach as much as she could...because moving the tailbone by sitting on it messed up the healing. she said sitting was excruciating unless she got in just the right position. damn spinal nerve must go down into that stupid vestigal tail we have.

i have back pain. vicodin is pretty good if you can get it...but long term usage has issues. i try to use it no more than once every couple weeks. literally 'i feel your pain', except mine is elsewhere. dunno if your coccyx is busted, but...sounds like it.

x-rays are good for seeing alot of stuff inside our bodies but, they are not foolproof.

let me tell you a little story about myself i just learned yesterday from my doc.
i have been having pain in my right arm, above the elbow for about 7 months. my doc had x-rays run on my arm and, nothing showed up.
for about 5 months, both of us have been fighting with the bean counters, over me getting a cat or mri scan of my arm.
last thursday i got a scan of my arm.
my doc got my results yesterday and, he shot me an e-mail with the results.
somehow, someway, i have no goddamn ideal how i did it... i broke my arm bone and never even knew it nor, did it show up on any of the the x-rays.

the mri scan showed the break and, my arm bones did not heal in a correct fashion because, it was never set to heal right.
my doc wants to send me to a bone doc for an evaluation.
i hope he won't want to break my arm bone again so, he can reset it to heal corrrectly.
I NEED THAT LIKE I NEED A CASE OF THE PLAGUE!

may queen, i'm just saying that, maybe you need to arm twist your doc (pun intended, JUST DON'T BREAK HIS ARM THOUGH!) some so, you can get a digital scan of some kind on your ass.
you could be quite correct, that the x-rays might have missed something big time.

i hope my story might help you, in getting treatment for your pain in the ass. (pun intended!) :biggrinjester:

You may wish to try glucosamine and chondroitin. You can buy it as a combined pill and it does help but it is not a short term fix. It takes time to build up in your system. It can be combined with pain medication. Also Advil is more effective on joint and muscle so maybe switch to that.

Try to find a free yoga class as posture will have a definite bearing on the pain and learning how to place your spine to help alleviate the stress until it heals would be beneficial to you.

It can take a long time to heal. Hopefully it improves soon for you.

Yes, great idea, I just called my lawyer and told him that I need a new doctor (the other one is a perv and I don't want him touching my ass, lol) So hopefully the next one will take it more seriously.

glucoamine and chondroitin? That makes me feel old

The ass hole who decided to do a u-turn into the side of us.

I take at least 8 ibuprofen a day.

This was recommended to my son by a surgeon and specialist.

Don't feel too old as he was between 12 and 14 when he took it and it did make a difference. :)
