well, i know most little baby stuff is in pastels, and i understand why. i'm making a quilt for my pregnant friend, and i don't really wanna use pastels.

which brought me to thinking...i imagine toddlers (2+) like brighter colors. i see lots n lots of toddler stuff in the brightest hues. so what if i make a toddler baby blanket? she'll probably get tired of all that muted stuff after a while, eh? i have all sorts of cute bright fleeces.

or might this be offensive to a young child?

I have never had a baby, but my little brother. who's eight years younger then I am had absolutely no pastel baby stuff. He turned out to be a little weird (but I guess only a little more then the rest of the family, but that's not from the colors)
I don't really think that using brighter colors is offending. I think that toddlers even have trouble distiguishing colors that aren't bright and well defined. I once read that they usually grab for bright colors with no gradients. This way to see stuff develops later. Toddlerstuff usually has bright well distinguished, colors with many contrasts.

ditto! they can't really see pastels so well at first, they like vivid contrast and bright colors. That's why there's all that black and white "brain-building" toys and nursery items available! My oldest child has always liked bright yellow, the brighter the better. She just turned five, and it was only very recently that she started liking pink and other pastel colors. My little one is the same way, if she picks out her own clothes, they are always bright red or kelly green or royal blue, never pastel girly or babyish colors.

My 3yo's favorite color is blue-bright blue. Go for it. It will stand out among the pasty boring pinks and such.

well, everyone already said what I was going to say :)
Yeah, babies love high contrast colors, so I say go for it! If you think that the mother might find it offensive, explain the concept to her.

Both of my kids preferred bright red to any other color, until about their 3rd birthday. So I guess I'd side with the brighter colors as well :)

I gotta agree with jester. Latest data is that babies prefer pastels. But, I don't think colors are offensive. Babies are stimulated by the contrasts of black, red and white. But, you don't want stimuli when the babies are trying to sleep!

My babies always liked black and white and red when they were playing or looking at one of those picture things on the back seat of the car, or mobile over thier changing table, and pastels for their clothes. Even my boy liked pastels better as a baby and young toddler.

I don't think it is that big of a deal, though. Make whatever color you like. Or ask the mom what she likes. Some people are weird about "nursery schemes" and will only use things that match.

Sage was my only baby to have a "nursery." (Although she usually slept with us at night.) And it was pastel, with a black, white and red mobile, and a pastel "Peaceful Planet" water sound fish thing in her crib, for the times she was in there.
