I am wanting to find communes that are more the stereotypical hippie communes from the 60's, like the ones depicted in movies and such.

The Farm, Stephen Gaskins, is not what I am looking for, his commune requires members to work outside the commune and members don;t share money or possessions.

Heres what i am looking for: a commune that members will share all possessions, money, will be self sustainining, members work on the commune and contribute to it, they make their own food, clothes, and make their own energy for showers and electricity. They are basically cut off from modern society.

I know their aren;t many like this around anymore, but their has got to be a few. I have heard Twin Oaks in Virginia is like this. Anyone confirm this?

Are you looking forone tolive in or visit? I'm looking for acommune to live in. I want to be cut off from society and be peaceful and with nature. I've been asking around but it seems the only thing coming up are the rainbow gatherings. If you find any helpful information would you let me know? Thank you.

    Peace and love,
    ~Sway

    erm...12 tribes is a cult....

your best bet is to find like minded friends and move to the woods....

from my expirience communes tend to either be cultish or full of drama or super work oriented. there are some fun ones out there though id recommend windspirit in arizona.
