I think from now on I'm going to stick to computer parts with lifetime warranties

XFX has one on I think all of their graphics cards (even if you are harsh on them, which I really appreciate, and they're well priced, and good cards)

ULTRA, has it on their PSU's, and they have decent price point\cable length\organization, easy to round, etc.

I don't think I'll ever find a hard-drive or processor with a good warranty, but, they're inexpensive, and hard-drives die, it's part of life.

Anyone know any motherboards with good warranties or durability? (although I think all the answers to this are going to be like chevy v. ford, just dependent on the kind of luck you've had with them)

cases, hell, just build your own

and optical drives, I'm just sticking with liteon, I still have a ten year old one working.

If I were you I would too, computer parts can be very expensive.

I've heard a lot of things go bad with motherboards especially.

they do, I mean, I kill mobos more often than I'd like.

I've had great luck with optical drives.

iffy luck with PSU's and processors.

the only floppy drives I've ever killed were by physical violence. and I had a streak of hard-drives go out on me from power outages, but otherwise, I've had good luck with western digital, but better luck with seagate.

I do mostly ascribe it to luck though.

me and my family have used eMachines computers for the last ten years or so, and we've never had a hardware problem with any of them.

Just out of curiosity, how would you build your own case anyway?

I had an eMachine and the power supply fried. Apparently that's a common problem with those shits. Now we just build our own. You can get the best of the best for way less.

Crap companies pay e-machines to include with their computer when they sell it that increases e-machines profit margin, but makes your computer less functional.

IE search bars, little crappy weather hunt things.

I hate buying computer parts. The next day something newer and better will always be on the market.
As far as hard-drives, processors and mother-boards they last the longest from my experience.
I spilt water and tea on my old Gigabyte mother-board while it was running and it still worked after I left it to dry for a few days and after numerous power outages. And I had it since 2002 until I replaced it with another Gigabyte MB just a few months ago and it was working just fine.

Yeah, Right now I'm on a gigabyte mobo, and (like the chevy\ford thing) I almost want to attribute it to luck, but, my next mobo will probably be a gigabyte,

god knows it won't be an MSI

I don't care about the newest fastest shit, I just get the second lowest of the generation, and it's good enough for max settings for a long time.

Right now I'm on an XFX Nvidia 8500, AMD 4600+ (dual core 64 bit), the GB55sli+ hard drives, some decent kingston RAM, with heat spreaders (4 GB of it) and a shitty $40 PSU

I have had no problems running anything I want to run that can run on a 64 bit system (except I did want to run Halo 2, since I'm still on XP had to use the hack, hack wasn't 64 bit friendly, made me sad, there may be a 64 bit hack by now)

you can honestly build a max settings system for ~$700 usd if you shop right.

    less if you catch sales

if you're picky (go for liftime warranty) you'll have to wait for the right stuff to be on sale.

Also, the whole Nvidia V. ATI thing, and Intel V. AMD thing.

also will take you some careful shopping.

Will you list these parts for those of us who are less familiar? That would be within my budget but I have very little idea of how to find these things work or where to find them.

I got the one I am using now for around the equivalent of $700 too.
    Core 2 Duo 3000GHZ
ATI HD4850 (Much cheaper and kick ass performance compared to Nvidia)
    2G Kingston
    GB Motherboard

And I can run everything to the max settings on Vista.

Nope, much more than that actually.
When I got it , it was around $200 or a bit less. Now its much cheaper of course.
Performance wise, its stronger than the 8800 GT which I think retailed at the time around $300.
