well, even if its not.. i'll post here any way.

As the possibility of uni draws nearer, i have had it in my head to write myself a reciepe book off yummy things to cook, prefurabally the cheaper the better! Like, Ratatouille and soups and pasta sauces.... bean pates.. you name it i want it. If you have some classic, tasty foodies that you pride yourself when making cos they taste damn good and don't damnage the pocket... please share!
I might write some up myself to give y'all some interesting ones...

So YEAH, what sort of things shall i add to me reciep book?

    Help is much apreciated..

(vegetarian dishes mostest required and welcomed!)

my all time favourite thing.. goes with loads of other things... is

    Ratatouille

We must all know how to make this, lovely vegetable dish.

You can use any of the following:
    Onions
    Garlic
    Mushrooms
    Aubergines
    Zucchini
    Peppers
    Tomatos
    Marrow
    Seasoning to tast.

    Must have is:
    Tinned Tomato

Basically shove it all in a pot and leave to simmer!
Really yummy and freezable. So easily can make a big batch and store it!

Really good with jacket potatoes and cheese on top, or with rice/pasta.

A real yummy, cheap reciepe which'll fill you right up!

hey dandy.. mm queeenness of cheap uni food. Mm recommend making tasty things to make you feel good when its cold...Oo

hum.. the other day i made fun spaghetti with wierd tomato sauce.. Okayy it was lloyd grossman.. but found in cupboard.. and tasted strange.
Cook spaghetti add not v much tomato sauce.. :D v economical
and then add a few spoonfuls of cottage cheese
    Stir
    = yummy creamy tomatoey pasta
i also maybe add lots of chopped up lettuce and tomatoes and cucumber to make super wierd salad pasta goo .
v good when you are confused by english summer and want hot and cold food together.
Eat with giant spoon and fork as it will be easy to gobble and not look like chomping creature with food falling out of mouth

Ah, vegetarian cooking...... one of my passions! I could ramble on all day about this. Here's a nice, easy student recipe for you though:

    Spicy Scrambled Eggs
A variation on piperade - a classic Basque recipe.

    • As much garlic and chilli as you can stomach
    • 1 onion
    • 2 eggs (beaten)
    • 1 small red pepper
    • 1 tsp cumin
    • 1 tsp paprika
    • Olive oil
    • Ground black pepper to taste
    • 1 can of tomatoes

Finely chop the garlic and chilli. Chop the onion into thumbnail size pieces. Lightly fry these ingredients until the onion is softening. At this point, and the paprika, cumin, black pepper and roughly chopped red pepper. Fry for a further 30 seconds or so and then add the tin of chopped tomatoes. Simmer this over a low heat until the mixture has reduced down to the consistency of a thickish paste. At this point, add the beaten eggs and stir in to the mixture. Cook until the desired texture is achieved and serve up on hot, buttered toast. If you have any to hand, garnish with some chopped parsley.

    don't know its name, but

if you do practically the same minus the chickpeas and add mashed potato instead.. need it all like dough, drop them in boiling water wait till they float and serve them with anything - pesto is good.. !

    Something else, thats yummy!

    HUMOUS..

if your someone who likes to make things from scratch sometimes.. and you addicted to the stuff... as i know a few of you lot are...
    this is how its done..
    listen up..

Chickpeas bottled in salt and water
    One lemon
    Olive oil
    Cumin
    Salt
    Clove of garlic

Remove most of the water (but keep about half of it for later). Drop contents on a pan and squeeze out the lemon. Grind the chickpeas while stirring gently, you should get a sort of paste. Drop in the lemon juice and season to taste. Dice the clove of garlic, this is optional if you dn't like garlic don't put it in. Then keep grinding and stirring or if your want an easy life just bung it in a blender! If too stiff pour a few drops of water (if you saved the water from the chickpeas use this, or oil either will do and blend.

Damn tasty with kettle chips, or warm pita bread and chopped up carrots and cucumber. YUM!

No it bloody is NOT optional! Not if you want to call it humus!!!

Also, for humus to be humus it needs TAHINI.

If you want to experiment with the basic recipe and try out a few other ingredients then red pepper and fresh corainder leaf are good places to start.

Garlic is my god. I must defend it. The Dok's rules of cooking, rule number 1: there's no such thing as too much garlic!

But yeah, without garlic it ain't humus - it's chick pea spread!

Sounds good. I'd probably throw in a little bit of cumin and sage, but that's just my personal tastes. I think I'll end up making this for my vegan friends someday.
