Hey you're in Ohio? Me too, heh.

I think this article is pretty much the vision for most people on the forums. Definately a good short read.

"When I lived with money, I was always lacking," he writes. "Money represents lack. Money represents things in the past (debt) and things in the future (credit), but money never represents what is present."

The fuck is he talking about? Money represents what you can buy with money. Nothing more. Unless you choose to give it other meaning.

It wouldn't really call that inspiring. I probably wouldn't be able to live without money, but why would I want to? It doesn't sound like he has that great of a diet.

I read that. Interesting, but I'd rather choose a happy medium than either extreme.

the reality is this guy is very much dependent on the society that money rules. he is not living independent of money. he is just living without touching it.

    there is a difference.

His words are vague and senseless. He simply states "money represents lack" without elaborating. Would you care to elaborate for him if you're so very much smarter than I am?

I don't see how money represents the lack of something when money is a means to acquire something. He doesn't have anything more now then he did when he used money.

But please elaborate. Clearly his words rang truly enough for you to be impressed by this guy. You're clearly kindred spirits, as neither of you seems to feel the need to expand on what you say for the benefit of your audience.

you can live without money. i know people who do it.
I, WOULD NOT LIKE TO LIVE LIKE THAT THOUGH!
you can barter and/or trade your labour.

having at least some money does make life better.
having too much money does make life harder to.
being out of balance with money is the problem.

Indeed. Money affords me many of the things I love. I'm obsessed with healthy living and I need a very diverse diet coupled with nutritional and herbal supplements. All of this makes my body and mind feel extremely good and I couldn't live without it. If I couldn't shop at stores I would then be limited to whatever food I could find, and wouldn't have any herbs or supplements at all. I would be nutrient deficient in comparison and I couldn't live like that.

not sure rambleon's in the mood for a full response lol, but ill give it a go, if thats okay

i'd imagine that, as it says he spent a lot of time amongst buddhist monks and the like, that hes talking about spiritual, rather than materialistic lack. while money is the means to acquire physical possesions, the belief is that attachment to material objects creates a spiritual defecit, it "kills the soul" i guess he means that the rewards of self-induced poverty, while largely spiritual, are all the better for it. a life that revolves around material objects and money is hollow and empty.

    he's probably a nutter.

however, while he takes things to extremes, he does raise an interesting point about modern-day society. consider that, right now, hundreds of people around the world are dying through starvation, preventable diseases etc. the will to help them exists, the resources exist. the thing which prevents aid to these people is money. but what is money? it doesnt really exist, its bits of paper only given any value by our belief in its integrity. only 3% of the worlds money even exists in paper form, the rest is all just on computers. while this guy is clearly a bit wrong in the head, you cant deny theres also something a little crazy about letting so many people die because of such weird system. but there you go

    cheers.

I have to agree, if he were wearing bobcat skins and hunting with a spear and cooking on a rock he would be more independent. He is just more like a bum living in the woods. Not to say I don't admire this commitment. However, he just follows the way of the hobo.
