Well, I suppse everyone has to engage in a rant at some point on the hipforums... so here I go. Anyone else get frustrated with a new generation of music-lovers ("lovers"? --damn i sure as hell don't know) ??? I respect everyone's different opinions and tastes. Celebrate diversity! lol... However, it really makes me think when I hear somone making a comment about a cover tune, and hailing the covering artist as if they're a regular musical genious. Know what I'm saying? Has anyone met these people? "Boys of Summer" is a song by DON HENLEY, not the Ataris! "Jack and Diane" is by John Mellencamp, and the tune was ripped by Jessica Simpson! "Have you ever seen the Rain?" - Yeah: CCR, NOT Rod Stewart! "Where did you sleep last night?" - LEADBELLY, covered by Nirvana. ...there are so many more. I appreciate covers, please don't get me wrong. I think there's alot of artists who can cover a song and really add a beautiful element to it! What I fear for is the next generation of music listeners thinking that "Satisfaction" was written, not by the Rolling Stones, but by Britany Spears. Know what I mean??? AHHH! That is all.
i dont know of a single person who thinks "Satisfaction" is a Britney Spears original. even die-hard britney fans can't be that delusional.
You'd be surprised man. At an elementary school I subbed at not one 4th grader in the class knew who the The Doors or the Rolling Stones were.
what? i thought Devo wrote Satisfaction (kidding...I was an MTV kid for a summer-great bad video, for grins and giggles) I know people who think Not Fade Away is a Dead tune (Buddy Holly). So it's all about the exposure.
I know people who think "All Along the Watchtower" is a Hendrix song. Ahahaha, that never ceases to amuse me.
You'd think so, wouldn't you? But I watched an interview on MTV and there was a young she-bop who was ranting and raving about Britney's "Satisfaction." This is what happens when I watch TV... but in all honesty, I do think it's all about the exposure, as drumminmamma said. It just boggles me mind sometimes.
The Beatles sang many cover songs in the begining of their career. can't blame Younger generation or the ones who came after. Hell I thought "Tainted Love" was by Soft Cell (remember that 80's hit?) I didn't learn till later on it was a cover. :&
Well the dead do it best, so I'm just going to act like it's a dead tune. Just like morning dew. well i heard jeff beck do a sick interpretation of it, but it was no GD.
Trout Fishing in America does NFA justice, in the Buddy vein, so is it a TFIA song? Fareed Haque does an awesome Aquarius....
