This is an old thread, but no responses.. The Fly is amazing and Videodrome definitely had some parts that stuck with me (vagina stomach)
Again it's been a while since someone posted here but... Videodrome was one of my all time favourites when I was younger. Watched it tripping which wasn't all that sensible. But also the Fly, The Dead Zone and Dead Ringers are all classics in my opinion
Yeah that's the one mate. Fucking brilliant. Not seen it in years though. From what I remember was really dark and as always the special effects were nasty.
yah i remember 'The Dead Zone' being a very psychologically thrilling movie that kept you in suspense and then finally at the end it picked up with the action.
horror writter clive barker, and david cronenberg did a little movie together entitled 'nightbreed.' quite well done too! :cheers2: back in 1976, i saw cronenberg's first movie 'shivers' at a drive-in move theater (that's right. i'm older then dirt.) would like to see shivers again after almost 35 years. and no, shivers is not the same movie as scanners.
Cronenberg is definately special. Something of an exotic taste - not for everyone. I remember some of his earlier efforts making a disquieting sensation within me (eg. The Brood). His true breakout film was 'Scanners' and led to greater and greater budgets to work with. There are few other directors who so consistently break new ground so intelligently in a genre that I can only define as neo-creepy as opposed to broad horror ('The Fly' notwithstanding). 'Videodrome' was certainly a standout. 'Scanners' created a sequels franchise. One of his titles that I've found intriguing is 'Crash'. What a script concept! This guy is a true original. He's also a pretty fair actor. Since his substantial role as an ultra-evil villain in Clive Barker's 'Nightbreed' he's appeared in quite a few films quite competently.
I've seen shivers as well. Long long time ago. Something to do with a parasites making people sex craved or something? I remember it was pretty messed up. Also Seen Crash, which is a great film. Based of a JG Balled book is it not?
Scanners (one of my all-time favorites) Videodrome The Brood Rabid The Fly (better than the original) Existenz Night Breed (Great as Dr. Decker) Hotwater
