Cuba Reports Constant Growth of the Forest
Havana, Dec 31 (AIN/Prensa Latina) While Latin America holds the bigger rate of deforestation of the planet Cuba is the only country of the continent with a constant growth of its forest by implementing programs.

The researches made by the United Nations Organization for Agriculture (FAO) reveals the annual lost of the forest in the world reaches 7.3 million hectares, which area is equivalent to that of Panama, noted AIN.

Facing this terrible panorama Cuba is carrying out a reforestation program in lands that were used with other aims mainly those liberated from the sugar plantation.

As an antecedent we have to recall the green areas of the island that were plundered for more than 400 years which situation was completely reverted since 1959.

The archipelago holds now the 23.6 percent of the area covered by forest and the Cuban Forest Development Program hopes to raise them to 29.3 hardly in 10 years.

Life would not be possible without forest since a great variety that make up earth biodiversity live on it and the vegetables that fertilize the atmosphere for its capacity of retaining carbon dioxide one of the gases of greenhouse effect.

I spent 4 days in cuba in the late 90`s.

Its a place lost in time and kept from the rest of the world just as with parts of russia and china as well as korea.

Its like the place that time forgot and everything shows it.

The building are some of the most amazing ive ever seen and the people are not as bad as one would think.

Its also obvious to a outsider that just as like here in the states, the rich live well and the poor just get shit on.

why should we think people is bad in Cuba?? that's maybe, what the US propaganda have been telling to the american citizen for many decades..

after all I'm not a super fan of cuba, well wait a moment, I'm a great fan of the cuban fight for its independence, of his history, david vs goliath, the struggle against the us imperialism, of the cuban dignity, but after many years a huge part of this has become a tool for the castrism, turning into a dictatorship,

what cuba, deserves now, under my opinion, is a fair and totally independent (US stay fucking out) democratic confrontation.
