You won't find out about today's antiwar march in Washington DC on CNN! You won't hear about the arrests going on as I write this either! LOOK FOR YOURSELF! http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/ As of 5:45pm EST. CNN hasn't even MENTIONED THIS STORY YET! The MEDIA IS CENSORING THIS EVENT! Americans are taking to the streets by the THOUSANDS and the US media is virtually ignoring it! No videos! No crowd photos! All I could find was ONE IMAGE on ABC, a tight shot of a sign in front of the white house, below. NO OTHER IMAGE IS AVAILABLE ON US MEDIA, and this occurred many hours ago! Are they SO AFRAID that if the PEOPLE see this event they may come down and JOIN IT??? This may be the START of a VELVET REVOLUTION just like in the the Ukraine. PEOPLE GO AND PROTEST IN DC NOW! THEY'RE CENSORING IT!
Al Jazerra is covering it (photo above) and here: http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/994DBA62-EC0B-4AE2-9FF5-BE7CFCF4D387.htm
Baltimore Sun, a local paper is covering it, BUT ONLY THRU A WEBLOG! In other words they're shunning the story as a feature! THE Blog SHOWS CROWDS! YEAH! Here's a comment from another person upset about media coverage, from the same page... http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2007/09/protesters_march_on_the_capito.html
So NO MEDIA coverage of the March, the Speeches, the Arrests so far! Only a few paragraphs from AP, with ONE IMAGE so far for most, if they've even bothered to cover it. Absolutely NO LIVE MEDIA COVERAGE. That is a CRIME!
Well, than the people themselves need to cover it. Screw media, they don't tell us jack anymore. depend on word of mouth. or if you really want media coverage, bombard them with phone calls demanding coverage. but, tell everyone!
Just shows you how controlled ALL the MAINSTREAM media is, when nearly all ignore or downplay this NATIONAL, possibly pivotal, event! Ah but that's the plan you see. To PREVENT such an event from having any sort of political impact. So the media ISN'T even being neutral by not covering it, they're conspiring to UNDERMINE AMERICAN DEMOCRACY! The very thing they are obligated to defend! Yes, I think it's time to PULL THE PLUG! on the media corporations! Protest their lack of coverage of PROTESTS, BOYCOTT their TV stations, radio stations, websites. After you've sent letters of protest to them, of course! Demand they apologize for their oversights during the BUSH REGIME, and demand they now compensate with EXTENSIVE COVERAGE OF ALL ANTIWAR, ANTIBUSH events! Are we going to let this BUSHIT CENSORSHIP continue when its effects are so OBVIOUS to everyone? NO MORE MEDIA CENSORSHIP OF ANTIWAR PROTESTS!
Finally - some BUSHIT from CNN! Notice they couldn't be bothered to cover it themselves! They got a police report and used that... This is ALL they have on this event so far. No pix, no video! And that's with 150 ARRESTS!!! Certainly no news there. Nothing worth a photo. No I-NEWS reports that CNN makes such a fucking big deal about! So this WHOLE FUCKING EVENT is about nothing more than people getting arrested according to CNN!!! Not even a mention that this event highlighted WAR VETERANS protesting. Or a mention of the Die-In.
oooh, oooh! The AP just released a NEW PHOTO! Wow! Check it out! It explains everything! And this with 150 arrests. Not a single decent picture... That's a total of TWO, yes just 2 images that have appeared on mainstream American media. Wow ain't that useful! Doesn't it really capture the day?
AP updated story. Notice they give MORE COVERAGE to the counter protesters and a conservative congressman than they do to the protest itself! WASHINGTON (AP) — Thousands of protesters marched Saturday from the White House to the Capitol to demand an end to the Iraq war. U.S. Capitol Police arrested least seven people who jumped over a barricade near the base of the Capitol. Nearly 100 officers were standing guard, and the protesters were arrested without a struggle. "What do we want? Troops out. When do we want it? Now," the demonstrators chanted. The protesters gathered earlier Saturday near the White House in Lafayette Park with signs saying "End the war now" and calling for President Bush's impeachment. The rally was organized by the ANSWER Coalition and other groups. Army veteran Justin Cliburn, 25, of Lawton, Okla., was among a contingent of Iraq veterans in attendance. "We're occupying a people who do not want us there," Cliburn said of Iraq. "We're here to show that it isn't just a bunch of old hippies from the 60s who are against this war." About 13 blocks away, nearly 1,000 counter-protesters gathered near the Washington Monument, frequently erupting in chants of "U-S-A" and waving American flags. They lined both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue to confront the anti-war protesters as they marched by. Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Robert "Buzz" Patterson, speaking from a stage to crowds clad in camouflage, American flag bandanas and Harley Davidson jackets, said he wanted to send three messages. "Congress, quit playing games with our troops. Terrorists, we will find you and kill you," he said. "And to our troops, we're here for you, and we support you." Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., made a surprise visit to the counter-protest, which was organized by the group Gathering of Eagles. The group was created this year by veterans who wanted to challenge war protesters. "We're a people of faith, courage and fidelity," said Hunter, a 2008 presidential candidate. "It's for this generation that we will win this war on terror." Associated Press writer Christine Simmons contributed to this report. NOW YOU KNOW WHO IS BEING MANIPULATED HERE - Christine Simmons - PROTEST HER REPORTING TO AP!
It's a lie through omission. I'm trying to figure how meaningful improvements will happen outside a violent overthrow. Does our constitution account for how we the people are supposed to deal with a criminal government that controls the media? Freedom of speech and freedom of press are not supposed to be things to be reflected upon with nostalgia.
Here's a halfway decent report. They added their own info to the AP report. I've censored the duplicitious right wing reporting that is all most of the media is reporting. WASHINGTON - Thousands of opponents and supporters of the U.S. presence in Iraq converged Saturday in Washington for a day of demonstrations. The anti-war ANSWER Coalition held a rally at Lafayette Square holding signs and wearing t-shirts bearing slogans that made their message clear. One man was wearing a shirt with only one bold word on it, "Impeach." The large crowd was shouting, "The people united will end this war." The mass of protesters filled most of Lafayette Park, and spilled into Pennsylvania Avenue in front of from the White House. At the rally anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan said that protesting was no longer enough, saying that those against the war should shut down college campuses and federal buildings in order to get their opinions heard. Former U.S. Attorney Ramsey Clark echoed the sentiments of some of the signs and t-shirts being displayed at the rally by calling for the impeachment of both the president and the vice president. Former Presidential candidate Ralph Nader blasted congress for not cutting off the war funding, calling them "spineless" and "gutless."
Its just beginning to trickle into the news services. http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&ie=UTF-8&ncl=1120805231 x
Know what's really fucked up? I can go to any of dozens of news sites and everyone has EXACTLY the same story. Why bother to pretend there's an INDEPENDENT media in this country? Why not just call every newspaper, TV & Radio station that carries exactly the same agency's stories by the SAME NAME? Why doesn't search engines like YAHOO & GOOGLE filter out ALL THE DUPLICATE stories so that ONLY the originating website, in this case, the AP, is found, and not 5,000 duplicate stories that are exactly the same? They do that with website content, so why exclude news agencies? So then if I want to find A DIFFERENT report on an event I don't have to manually filter out every fucking AP duplicate story! I think we need to shut down the AP until they start telling the WHOLE STORY, not just what the gov't lets them say.
About 3 hours ago it broke on Fox News - which suprised me. I've not noted that it's been reported on other stations just yet. I don't know who said it above, but I noted too, that the shots were "tight" and not showing the entire scene. There was no panned out shot the likes of Million Man March or other historic protests.
Ever since the first anti Iraq War protest they've been only showing tight shots in American media, whereas foreign media usually has much better photos and reporting! You'll notice even conservative Matt Drudge (Drudge Report), includes many, many foreign media reports about what's happening in the US because the US media won't cover a LOT! Did Fox News have ANY VIDEO footage?
Corporate news is cloned news. Alot of the smaller agencies can no longer afford to have independent reporters on the scene themselves so they buy subscriptions from the major wire services. Its also a Saturday and this story has been done over and over. You can only cry wolf so many times. It would have to take a nasty turn to get moved up the priority list. A shooting or something. x
I still say we should have a reality show that goes to various demonstrations each week. That would be much more interesting than what's happening with Ozzy Osborne's daughter or bimbo city on MTV and VH1. Demonstrations would be a great reality format for the pop music video channels, but they won't take any chances. They stick with the mindless reality shows of 20 year old bimbos trying to live in the same apartment and fighting all the time. .
Finally CNN does the right thing! Here's their images... http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/15/iraqwar.protest.ap/index.html#cnnSTCPhoto Wondering if my rant to their I-Report team (along with others, I'm sure) got noticed? Organizers estimate 100,000 protesters showed up!!! Imagine how many more would've if the media had shown it live! Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan told the crowd it was time to be assertive. "It's time to lay our bodies on the line and say we've had enough," she said. "It's time to shut this city down." Army veteran Justin Cliburn, 25, of Lawton, Oklahoma, was among a contingent of Iraq veterans in attendance. "We're occupying a people who do not want us there," Cliburn said of Iraq. "We're here to show that it isn't just a bunch of old hippies from the '60s who are against this war."
