I live in a tourist town on the pacific coast of Costa Rica, Tamarindo. Surfers love it here and have been coming here for many years. Well the development has gotten out of control and the water treatment systems are terrible. Some hotels here let their sewage water run out in the streets. Now that rainy season has come again everything has run out into the water and the fecal matter is so high that the beach should be closed. No one wants to say anything though because it would be very bad for tourism. Tourism is already really bad and it has drove many people out of town. I dont think it is right! People could get REALLY sick. It just makes me depressed. I am a surfer and my beach is destroyed because of others selfish actions.
Maybe you could tell everyone that cares to send protest letters, petitions, etc. to the people responsible of this. I know there's no stopping tourism and bu$ine$$, but if all the locals protest, at least the hotels will know there are people out there who won't let the environment be destroyed without saying a word.
Anyone who thinks he is too small to make a difference has never been in bed with a mosquito. It's leading the way in its conservation policies, with around 27% of the country protected, ensuring that lush jungles are teaming with monkeys, lizards, frogs, exotic birds, and insects. Its also has no army and the coffee's outstanding. The community for friends of the environment. www.ecotreadsetters.com
