DEA's "What american's need to know about Marijuana" Publication

I was coasting through the Cannabis Culture website, finding out about Marc Emery, and it linked to the DEA website about "What Americans Need To Know About Marijuana" publication (apparently they are sending this to schools, parental groups, coaches, etc). But... one part of it that caught my eye... where I knew I was gonna see some bullshit, was the Medical Marijuana section... I copied a screen shot of the selection.. take a looksee



Funny how they will offer THC in pill form... but wont allow you to smoke it.. lol...hmmm

 

why is that so funny? it makes perfect sense. though the one i take exception to really is the second to last point. the rest seem to be -based- in truth, though spun a certain way to make it seem like they're being entirely reasonable. most of their points, while i dislike and disagree with them, aren't entirely untrue.

 

Lame - I have seen cancer patients who got little relief from Marinol (which most docs believe puts you on the state boards little list therefore don't write script for it ) who did well smoking.

 

right, because marinol contains only delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the most prominent, but not the only cannabinoid found in marijuana. its other related drugs in the plant that have various effects such as making you sleepier, making you hungry, whatever. thats why different strains have different effects...different ratios of certain substances. marinol is one isolated substance and hasn't the desired medical benefits you'd receive from smoking or eating ACTUAL marijuana. basically, from what i understand, you just get really high, but get no real relief.

and also, water is a chemimcal... whether its BAD chemicals or not is what we should be concerned about.

yeah, about the heroin, heroin IS used a medicine, only in morphine form...

 

morphine isn't heroin, they're just both opium derivitives. morphine occurs naturally in opium, and heroin is a semi-synthetic opioid made from morphine, but an entirely different chemical nonetheless. however, there are equally strong (and addictive) opioids on the market since they banned heroin. for example, fentanyl has a dosage in the microgram range (millionths of grams) which makes it far, far more potent than any other opioid i know of, including heroin. oxycodone also is quite strong, and when used in a similar manner to heroin (snorting or injecting) it can be equally addictive. of course, any opiate can be almost as bad as heroin if the right (wrong?) person abuses it in a certain manner - even codeine can be quite addictive. what it all really boils down to is responsible, therapeutic use rather than shooting up to kill the time. heroin was banned long ago and has a certain stigma associated with it, however the notions most people have that are specific to heroin are no longer valid with the plethora of newer opioids on the market. i think it should be relegalized and placed in schedule II so that people suffering from chronic pain or terminal illness associated with sever pain problems can benefit from it.

actually, i think it and most other drugs should be available over the counter to legal adults willing to sign a waiver, but that will never be likely to happen. did you know heroin was first marketed as a childrens cough syrup? bayer made it - you know, the aspirin people...

 

i agree, the second to last point is dumb. How many of our psychiatric drugs "make people feel better" and are used to that end?

It is also dumb how they say THC has no medical value, then say they have approved it for prescription in pill form.

Really, though, anything the DEA says I just ignore, because it's obviouly going to be biased.

 

i dont think they say THC has no medical value do they? maybe i missed it...i dunno...anyhow, i thought it was more that MARIJUANA has no medical value....sort of how cocaine is only schedule II, but you still aren't generally allowed to have coca leaves around.....

 

i was under the impression heroin was just an ultra refined form of opium.

 

heroin is diacetylmorphine, morphine is just plain morphine

 

My favorite part is about half of them having 115 pounds in federal court. They just ignore the fact that most lower-level dealers are prosecuted at a state or county level

 

the DEA is now saying its more powerful and phsycialy addcitive wow... stupity at its finest, also it can make people violent... it also increases the heart rate by 20-30 beats per mintues wow so does running,coffee,different meds,alcohol(in some cases alcohol can be a stimulant),many commonly used stimulants. more people have been hospitalized yet non have died, also they didnt sat ecactly why they where hospitalized, anxeity attacks are the first one i would guess i mean come on,people alway die and have other problems from anxeity
