I'm a 27 year old male. I hurt my back had a bulge. Pain never went away after bulge went away. Had been placed in pain management. Went several months on percs. Had a discogram done nothing showing anything wrong but did reproduce pain. Was referred to an ortho surgeon. He said he would suggest me doing a disctomy with a fusion. He said I'd try and wait. I thought about it for 2 weeks and was sick of the pain. Had surgery march 2009 and was on percs till sept 2009. since the surgery I had my left leg messed up. Still in pm using up my meds and then trips to the er cuz I cant get my pain under control. In october 2009 I had my self lowered to vics. Towars the end off october I stopped taking meds period and just stopped going to pm without out letting them know. I was sick of the cycle I was going thru. as of dec 09 I was done. Went all the way to sept 2010 dealing with pain. And doing ok. Then I started hurting everyday. I was reffered back into pm and put on vics. Doc had mri done and told me scar tissue and prob causing pain. Been getting injections every 2 weeks and vics monthly. They dont help. I dont want to go thru this again. Pills not helping. Just dont want to do this again. Should I just explain this to pm and stop going? or should I stop going and not let them know?
I dont have much experience in dealing with doc's but if your dead set on being done id talk to him. I dont see what it could hurt and hes possibly delt with someone like u before and maybe will have some advice to make it easier on u. Good luck with everything, thats a tough situation.
Ok, can you explain exactly where you want to be as far as pain control is concerned. If you dont want to be on an opiate regiment to control your pain, Exactly what miracle do you hope to find here in the Opiate Forum that doesnt involve Opiates? I'd like to offer suggestions but Im not sure what you are after.... I dont blame you for not wanting to be on Opiates the rest of your life but from what Ive read, you have only been taking the easy stuff (vics), were u on percocets? Was that the strongest you've taken for your pain? Have you considered a low dose Oxycontin for pain control throughout the day. You only have to dose twice a day and a low dose shouldnt get you high but should ease your pain. Taken responsibly, this might be your best option.
Have you explored if the scar tissue can be removed? I do not necessarily think it is a good idea to dismiss the pain management and medication without some alternative to maintain a quality of life in as much comfort as possible. Have you considered alternative types of treatments to try. Things like acupuncture and deep tissue massage. Possibly even TENS (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) might be a relief. I hope that you are able to find either an alternative that helps or at least is combined with medications.
Medical cannabis (depending on your location). Try keif or hash if there isn't a medical donor near you. Oxycontin/Roxycontin/any STRONGER opiate...although you exactly aren't looking to go down the opiate route.
Ive heard great things about hypnotherapy/meditation for pain. I have seen people who have trained their brain to resist pain, but thats something that takes time and dedication with no certainty. But who doesnt have a year when in for a life of pain.
