Democracy Democracy...

Is it a great system or not?

I put forward that it is a very inadiquate system and one that needs to be banished from the planet. I have six points here::
1. Equallity of intelligence (classes should be broken up based upon their mental compacity)
2. Electorial College (self explainitory, they can change the vote if they so please, thankfully they have not yet)
3. Runs on Emotions and Opinions rather then truths and knowledge
4. It is constantly changing so knowledge of the system becomes harder and harder to aquire
5. Freedom + Liberty = Tyranny (believe it or not Democracy defeats itself by allowing the people the liberty of creating and passing their own laws)
6. Mob Rule (This wouldn't bug me if the majority was acutally smart enough to figure out whats best for the country)

Now I'm hopping to get a good discussion out of this and not a post full of trolls... So please everyone if a troll is spotted in here... besure to not feed him/her.

 

Aright, so if you think democracy breeds tyranny, what system do you suggest? Straight to the tyranny? You honestly believe that a system where people have less freedom is better than one where they have more? Explain yourself.

 

I didn't suggest anything, I just said that a system that allows its people freedom and liberty to create its own laws will lead itself into a corner. Its already happening, look at some of the restrictions we as citizens have to indure. The gov't can already spy on us, we allowed that one by. Its a simple explination; one person doesn't like something, so they put together a nice sized arguement against it and a large amount of people behind them. The either petition the government or lobby the president and attempt to either regulate or abolish what it is they do not like. Religion or organizations that can get TV time are great for doing this, they've tried to burn books, Harry Potter) they're trying to ban certain video games/censor them when all thats needed is better parenting. They've tried to senser movies, in other words they are already attacking your freedom of speech and expression. I'm surprized you don't notice this at all. I'm sure that you just watch the news and see that the kids who flip out and go shoot people. And I'm also sure that you agree with the news anchor when they are told to say that Video Games, Music, TV, or even the Movies are to blame. And I'm also certain that you believe them. It is happening, maybe not on a grand scale but it will certaintly pick up. I am not lying by stating that equation, Freedom+Liberty=Tyranny. When you can't do what you used to do, say what you used to say, wear what you used to wear, read what you used to read, watch what you used to watch look back and rember what I told you.

 

A wise man once told me that the only thing worse than democracy is everything but democracy. I still think he's right.

 

I know that man was wrong. He was smart, but not intelligent I see.

 

I think democracy is a splendid idea but i've yet to see it work on a large scale, and representative democracies inevitably breed tyranny like the rest, just at a slower rate. Ideally i'd like to see small nation states with direct democracy, or anarchy.

 

Acient Athens the first to develop Democracy and the first to acutally impliment it in such a way that it was grand. But it still only functions off of opinions of the majority.

 

This may be the most offensive comment anyone on here has ever made to me. Maybe you should read some of my other posts before you are so sure of what I believe. It's sure as fuck not the news. The people haven't decided to have their freedoms taken away, they've been duped into it. I understand that our freedoms are being curtailed every day. I'm sure I'm a lot more informed about the subject than you are. Read my posts in the conspiracy forum, or any other forum for that matter if you want to know what I really believe.

And we haven't been duped into anything, its the nature of humanity. And no I don't want to know what you believe... beliefs=nothing.

 

This statement is bullshit on so many levels. Maybe do some research into just how our freedoms are being taken away. They're being taken away by others, not the people of the United States.

Yes they have.

The Electorial College is a facet of the US republic form of rule rather than that of a true democracy.

And other forms of governance do not? What are you basing this statement on?

What is constantly changing? Not a complete statement or argument.

Perhaps you would like to support your argument with with something besides supposition?

Within any formalized government mob rule seldom if ever rears it's ugly head. The mob is governed and manipulated by the rich and powerful.

Troll what's a troll? Perhaps I am too stupid to spot one. Perhaps you should appoint yourself ruler, so that you can stipulate who may respond to your post.

Thats what I like about hippies, they have the highest amounts of dreams in the world, and they are the enternal optimist. They think that humans can do everything, they think that Peace can actually exsist, which it never can and it never will. Hippies provide me with hours and hours of entertainment when truth is produced and not supplied with 'facts' that are OH so important. Reason is all you need, a fact isn't always true so its a horrible thing to ask for. Same applies to belief's and knowledge, you can believe something is true, or you can know that its true, I don't hold beliefs, I hold knowledge, knowledge that can be back up with discussion not forum posting. Thats why I'm having a hard time of accomplishing my goal of getting one person to know what I am saying. I need an debate not a questionare.

 

You're smoking too much dope! For such an advanced intellectual you weren't even aware that the electoral college had already overrode democratic/public voting in the US 4 times? How intellectually superior are you?

Perhaps you would like us to bow to your superiority and accept everything you say on FAITH!

I'm not sure about democracy. I do think it's the best syestem of government we have. The biggest flaw in the system is that the people who want power the most are the people who deserve it the least.

 

We really only have a democracy if we USE it. But when a hand full of agressive people control everything, and the rest don't care enough to do anything about it, we have no democracy. When hardly anyone decides to vote because they don't think their votes count, then we don't have a democracy. When we allow ourselves to let the minority tell us what to do rather than decide for ourselves, we don't have a democracy, and if we hand over power to the first guy who comes along with enough money and influence so we can go on about our cushy lives without being bothered by the details, we don't have a democracy. So, what was your question?
