I am not so good at sewing. I have a lot of denim jeans and denim peices lying around, and I would like to make my wife a patchwork skirt for christmas. I am looking for easy to do pattern or ideas or instructions of some sort. I have been trying to look on the web, without much luck. All the sites that have how to instructions want to charge, and I have no money. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's a really sweet idea. I haven't made a whole lot, but I would suggest you find all of these pieces and decide what kind of patches you want (long an narrow, squares, etc.) The easiest would be long an narrow patches I think. I would just measure a long rectangle to the length of the skirt, and then trace that shape onto more fabric, but I would make sure that the rectangles were a bit wider at the end so that the skirt would flare on the bottom (I'd leave a bit extra to sew a path for a drawstring, and to hem the bottom). I remember making a skirt in elementary school for a 50s costume (it was a poodle skirt) but we just cut a circle out of the fabric, and another circle inside that for the waist and finished the edges. Remember if you're sewing the front and back together, the back should be bigger than the back because it covers the butt. I don't know what else I can say. You should use your imagination, remember the body shape, and listen to what all these fine folks have to say.
