My son has diaper rash, and I can't seem to get it to go away. I think I have figured out what keeps causing it, but it is bad. The diaper rash cream doesn't seem to be doing much, I just used some corn starch on him, and have yet to see the results. If it doesn't work, what are some other suggestions?

some people confuse a diaper rash with a yeast infection... not saying that is what it is, but if its really stubborn and not going away, you might think of taking him to the doctor to get it checked out.

Okay, this is going to sound odd, but dab the infected areas with Maalox, let dry (it will take a little while) and then gently slather on the diaper ointment on top of that. My pediatrician recommended Triple Paste for my twin son when he had a really bad case. So I'd put that on after the Maalox layer. It's not cheap (the Triple Paste), and I had a heck of a time finding it, but it definitely works. We had tried everything prior to that, and I mean everything!

And of course, the obvious bare bottom whenever possible!

    Hope he feels better!

I am pretty sure it was tomatoes. His mama is supposed to call and get him a doctors appoinment, but the doctors around the area I live in now are worse that the doctors where I use to live, they seem clueless. At my old residence I would explain to the doctors that I look for natural cures and such and they would spend a bounch of time and energy argueing with me about why he should just be medicated. Where I am living now, they just give me a stupid look and then ignore me (it's rough being a hippy in a redneck town).

Do an internet search for "yeast diaper rash" and see if that's what it looks like. Is he still nursing??

tomatoes also give my youngest a horrible rash. One time, after eating spaghetti, it was so bad it bled. A red ring around the anus is a sign of a food allergy/intolerance, a bloody rash is the same thing, hundreds of times worse. Make sure you don't feed him potatos or eggplant, either. Any sort of barrier cream should help, but nothing will make it go away until the food clears out of baby's system. Doctor won't do anything about it, besides tell you to use lotrimin or prescribe an anti-fungal. If it is fungus (yeast, candida, thrush) you have to treat it internally as well as externally. Probiotics works great, and monistat (like for vaginal yeast infections) is a good topical treatment to use.

That's what always caused my younger son's horrible diaper rashes to the point of bleeding. Tomatoes!

I've been told that Butt Paste is pretty much the same thing. We have that at the local Wal-Mart, if you have trouble finding Triple Paste.

Cornstarch powder always worked for my boys. Any ointment made it worse.

I'd put the powder on his little hiney every time you change his diaper till it goes away. I used to do it even when they didn't have a rash just to freshen up the area. :)

Alexis has diaper rash right now and cornstarch made hers A LOT worse. She just had some reddish skin that was tender and now there's a blister. Desitin Overnight Relief is doing wonders for her.

...and for my girls, Desitin always made every rash worse because of the perfume in it (we are all very highly sensitive to artificial fragrances). Boudreaux's Butt Paste is unscented, and works okay, but not as well as my homemade chamomile ointment.

The cornstarch seems to be the miracle cure I was looking for. After the first use everything pretty much cleared up, except the really bad spots. The whole introducing new foods to him seems to be very difficult. It seems that everytime he gets around one of his grandparents they are trying to force something new down his throat. Everytime I visit I have to argue with them that "even if he is ready for meats and dairy, I don't want him to have it yet!!!!!" It's like damn people, let me rasie my own family. I will decide when it is time for him to have something new. I introduce something new to him, then he visits my mom. I go to the bathroom or something, and when I come back in the room, he has got a mouthful of toast with processed cheese crap on it. "There's not enough cheese to matter on it", is the responce I get. That's not the point!

as much naked time as possible!!!

Abryn, my six month old, had a pretty bad yeast rash a few days ago and I let her go naked most of the time and I saw a great improvement in just a few hours...

I always figure to each their own, and I really try my damndest not to interfer with the parenting of others, but I always have to wonder if these people know what they are doing to the health of their children. I see it all the time, these parents who are excessivly overweight feeding their children cheetoes and cookies for lunch, and never even offering them something nutritous. And everyone wonders why obesity is such a killer in america. It goes along with the mental conditions like ADHD, give your children candy and foods loaded with sugar and deprive them of essential vitamin and nutrients, then give them medication to calm their hyperactivity.

AMEN! A lot of that hyperactivity also comes from parents not disciplining their children and their children don't know what do with themsleves so they call it adhd and drug them. Pisses me off. I realized discipline takes effort and can be exhausting but damn it... sorry off on a tangent.

    How's your son's rash today?

It is doing a lot better, there was one spot that was so raw it bled a couple of times, and it is the only spot that is red now. Thanks for asking.
