anyway, i've read a tale of two cities, great expectations, and a christmas carol, but i only likes a tale of two cities, and that only got good after the first couple hundred pages. the last handful of chapters were redeeming enough to make it one of my all time favorite stories, but i'm not a big fan of dickens' wordy style.
Besides the whole beginning for me was how he slowly revealed the intent behind the numbered Jacques, they were my favorite characters :coolgleamA:
I am not a fan of Dickens. I'll have to look into David Copperfield though when I have a couple minutes of my own time. Could be good going to sleep material
Damn, mad hate for my favorite author! lol Oh well, I think he was brilliant and I love his sense of humour
Then again, I read the shit in high school when I didn't care. Things like that always have a different flavor after I have seasoned I have actually thought about giving many of the stories that didn't move me another go round.
both these things are true, but the problem with TOTC is that it was a serialization in a newspaper, for which he was paid per word. if this had not been the case and he had simply written the book all as one book on its own to begin with, it would have been much better, without losing any quality in the story or character development. its deliberately wordy. anyway, i do love the part where the lady is in a crowd and shes like knitting or something and someone asks what shes making and she just kinda looks at him and says "a shroud."
Ah, that seems like the cause of this dilemma This weekend I snatched up, War & Peace Les Misérables & David Copperfield Im half way through Ulysses and pretty deep into Copperfield already. I tend to read 4 or 5 books at a time though, I like having the mix of styles to keep it interesting. Now if only I could apply that short term memory to my working life...
That is the cause of the dilemma. I didn't read for reading's pleasure back then...instead just for the test....and then it was just a matter of repeating on paperform what the teach had said in class. I was a good listener but not a good student really. Sounds like you have a bunch to read.
Yea it's a stack all right. I cant help myself when I go to a bookstore, I buy everything in sight lol
Do you go to second hand bookstores? We live at one around here Not truly but might as well. Plus Andy's brother works there so he helps hook us up with good finds. My kid is all about TMNT....so he just got her a game for her little gameboy. She will be so excited to be able to kick ass as a turtle.
Nah I wish. I have to go and get ripped off by the big names, but since I dont drive that's my only option for now
