My mom makes me hang out with this REALLY annoying christian kid. We went to this lake with them and his little borther (9 years old) was hitting ducks (a mother and about 7 babies) with mud and rocks, I told him to stop and he said they have no emotions at all so it doesnt matter. Today we were at another lake where there was much bigger rocks and heavy sticks all around and ducks, he started hitting them with rocks, evertime i asked him to stop he started throwing bigger rocks at the ducks, he picked up a stuck and threw it as fast as he could at the nearest ducks and hit one on the head and one on the back. I shoved him in the water, everyone in my family says "Theyre just ducks, who cares" and all that. Did I do the right thing? he only got wet.
I wonder what that family would think if people started throwing rocks at thier pets...would they say "its JUST a dog" ? Probably not. You did the right thing.
How does this have anything to do with religion? I was not aware that Christians believed that animals didnt matter? And that it is OK to be violent towards them???? Put it this way, if it was my kid, he would have been under the water before the rock or stick even left his hand.... People who are cruel to animals are usually cruel to other people as well. Good job!
yea today my brother caught crickets and tied em to rocks and burned em, my sister was like "Its not like they feel pain and they're dieing, they aren't going ' oh I'm dieing'". my family thinks that about animals. at least it answers my questions as to why my family only keeps a pet alive if it makes a human happy. and why my mom treats every dog like a computer that needs to be programed and if it "doesn't work" and obey her human laws it worthless.
It's people like your family (no offense, you cant help who you were born to) that really scare me.....it's like they do not value life....do not respect fellow living creatures...humans are animals too, we are just more destructive to our environment than other animals....at least you are growing up respecting all creatures, whether it is a cricket, a duck, etc...it can be incredibly frustrating, angering and trying to deal with this sort of behavior, especially when it is your own family....lucky for me I grew up with an entire family who treated our "pets" and all living creatures fairly and with kindness. All you can do is try to educate people....sometimes people are just to ignorant to realize that animals are alot smarter than we think : ) And show love and affection the same ways we do....
Haha, I was about to say... if that was MY kid (if I had kids) I'd be the one throwing him/her in the water... And true, people who are cruel to animals usually grow up to be cruel to people. Do you know the kids' parents? Maybe you should talk to them.
those poor animals. you did do the right thing so be proud. i feel sorry for the crickets even though i'm not overly fond of insects. my mom treats animals very kindly. earlier this month, when she was extremely busy and had lots of stuff to do, she put all that aside to visit our neighbors because their horse was dieing and they weren't sure what to do. i see animals as our equals. i don't like insects much, but i don't go and kill them for fun. everyone else in my family other than my mom thinks i'm nuts because i share my blankets and pillows with my dog at night, especially if there's a thunderstorm because he's really afraid of them. animals are our equals. be proud that you did something to protect them. i hope you can contact those kids' parents and have a discussion with them about their children's behavior.
I guess this is why our cat only sleeps in my bed and follows me around.(if im sitting in a chair he lays down next to it.
Make sure you don't let your family influence your opinions on how to treat fellow living creatures. I admire that with all the hatred towards certian living things, you have the 'kahonies' to stand up for what you believe.
Unfortunatley I see that alot at the park.....some fucked up little kid tormenting ducks. I always put a stop to it and try to talk some sense into them. Are your family christians? If so show them this bible passage...proverbs 12:10 says "A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal....." You did the right thing by defending the ducks. Good on ya.
It's rather interesting that a family who belives in god was letting a kid do this to one of gods creatures...
