I would like to hear everyones opinion on the oneness of humanity. Are we separate? Are we one? What do you think? Although this is a purely opinionated discussion, please do not post anything that you do not honestly believe could be a rational possibility. There are no correct answers, we do not know them for fact, so be open to everyone's reply.
I do beleive we are all one...I also beleive the Baha'i principle that all of the gods from the major religions came from the same spirit. Another good point that Baha'i has is that the world should have a Universal Language....Start teaching it to young kids and that generation would have the ability to speak to just about everyine in the world...I'm not pushing the Baha'i on you but I think that that is a good idea...And it could be something like French, lots of people already speak it and it would be more easy cause its acctuall not to hard.....And everyone would get to keep their native toung, just learn it as a second language...
I definately like the idea of having a universal secondary language. =) As far as Oneness goes ... I believe that everybody and everything is linked, but that for almost all humans, this link has degraded over time, due to our lack of wanting to be One with everyone. I think that some of us (here on the hipforums, for example) do have stronger links, but that they still need improving. =)
Suppose that all of the gods of all the major religions, though merely thoughts in the mind, all come from the same spirit, that spirit which is the oneness of all life, the universal conciousness. They could all be false, yet they all spawn from the minds desire to cope with reality. I would have to agree with the idea that separation need not exist. Separate countries and separate languages are not required, yet the language is only a conception of the mind which enables us to communicate the truth, however distorted it may be. All language need not be, yet we feel the need to communicate, which I will not say is a good or bad thing. Separation need not be, but we obviously do not believe or know for a fact that we all are one, we believe in our separation, and that belief need not be. That is what I think.
I would hope that one day we do not have to believe in Oneness, and we will know if for fact. We do not understand it yet because we cannot comprehend it. I believe this discussion will heighten our understanding on the subject.
"Only so long as there is the knower is there knowledge of all kinds ( direct, inferential, intellectual etc. ); should the knower vanish they all vanish together with him; their validity is of the same degree as his." -Sri Ramana Maharshi
I believe we are one, because I believe the universe is one. One what, one may ask, and that I don't know. I wouldn't say it's an entity, since that implies limits, and no one, certainly not I, knows if the universe has limits or not. But I'd say we're all connected at a fundamental level, which is why karma can even exist. I see someone said he wishes we wouldn't have to just believe, but know that we are one. My friend, if life has a purpose, that'd be it. We can all do it too, if we don't blind ourselves to the truth. That's the sacred journey By the by...I'm pretty sure more people speak English than French, by far. But of course, more people speak Mandarin than English. Let's all go learn Chinese!
Ok. How can one, rather than just believing, as believing is not knowing and therefore not truth, realize this oneness for its truth. How can one see through this false separateness and not believe, but know for fact, this oneness is so. This discussion is purely for the liberation of mankind. Let us rationalize ourselves out of our own false rationalizing.
Hikaru does not know how to prove his belief of Oneness. However, he will try. Are you human? Aye. I am human as well. We came from the same creator, if there be one (which Hikaru believes there to be one). Or if not, then we all came from the same evolutionary tree. We are all linked by common ground through this simple fact. And we are all able to understand such concepts as Oneness. We are also able to understand that the human race is One, Through it's creation, However that came to be. All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares. All humans are beings, but not all beings are humans. The simple fact that we are conscious, Sentient, and as such, living, and unique. These factors are common throughout us all. We are One through our positive relationships with others of our kind. One must only realize this fact.
Oneness with humanity is not enough. We must all become One with all sentience in this universe, And perhaps once this is accomplished, beyond this universe. Hikaru accepts his Oneness with races, religions, and beings, As well as his Oneness with Gaia, being a panentheist. Hikaru accepts that he is not intelligent enough yet to become completely One with these things. However, Hikaru also accepts the fact that this link between us all DOES exist, And that the link CAN be strengthened, Through respect, honour, and courtesy.
I think Hikaru underestimates himself. It's not about intelligence, its about being present and fully conscious.
I believe that everything and everyone is made of energy, and as such, due to the fact we are all energy, we're all connected, at least on that level. I don't know if we're connected anymore than that however....
Is it? Hikaru is both present and fully conscious. And so are you. And yet, we are different people. We lead different lives, and we do not know everything about eachother. We have different opinions and different experiences. And if this were not true, we would not be arguing (or discussing) right now. Hikaru argues that, spiritually, you and he are not One, at least not yet. But he also argues that we are getting closer. =) To be One, all must know truth and only truth. All must not have individual opinions. However, both you and he know lies. Both you and he have opinions. Closer, we are getting. One, we are not. Yet. It may take centuries. Decades. Millennia. Or more. But eventually, it will happen. Hikaru is confident, and willing. And so should all be. =)
We are all sentient beings, yes. We all have a brain, and all brains, all that I have observed anyway, desire a certain becoming. Imagination is twisting reality, clinging is desiring reality to become what is created through imagination. The problem seems not to begin with imagination, but through clinging to imagination, desiring what is not. As long as one desires something that is not, one is insecure. It creates beliefs that spawn from its own imagination and the imagination of others, not from truth. If it would see oneness, it could not create this conflict, as all is one, so therefore all holds the same importance. Nothing can be out of balance because all is in balance. The mind doesn't believe it though because of all the conditioning. The only way is to destroy the root of conditioning, which may be desire itself.
And through the same reasoning that Isness has concluded That desire is undesirable, (laughs) Hikaru concludes that desire is one of the primary reasons For death, suffering, deceit, and corruption. Specifically The desire for power, Is disrespectful. To acquire more power, Is to take the inherent power from another, And this is disrespectful. To be truly respectful, One must wish to have only the power they deserve, And not the power of others. But to be so respectful, Most humans are not capable of, For they cannot trust the other people of their race Who hold the power that they do not. Thus, they seize the power for themselves, To do with it as they see fit, And this leads to strife.
I would assume that by power, you mean anything that one believes will lead to his or her own happiness, their own desires being reached. We envy other people for power we cannot have, and we knowingly prevent other people from having what they want, from attaining their own power, or happiness. One who commits any of these acts cannot know oneness, for they still desire power for themselves, meaning that they only know separateness from others. Only when we realize we are one with all other beings, and one with the universe itself, can we realize that all our desires were created out of the notion that we are all separate beings, and that this notion was completely unnecessary.
