Careful… I was land blasted and caused a 4 page bitch fest for telling a girl that she's big.

    Though I agree with you.

It's one thing to love your body. It's another thing to make me feel bad about mine so that you can love yours.

Also, I misread your post and thought you said that you caused a bitch fest on "page 4"...and I reread page 4 of this thread and got very confused.

    No worries :)

I think the reason they market those statements is to promote acceptance of obesity.

    who created those slogans anyway?

People know they are putting on weight when they have to buy increasingly larger sized clothing so the talk about not seeing gradual changes in the mirror really can't be right.

Oh goody another fat thread. I am sure that is going to be really encouraging to those who already have a weight issue.

Not like there have not been 20 or so related threads in the last month.

In some places in Africa and i think some south pacific islands "you're fat" is a compliment as it is a sign of wealth and status

HA! You're right. I just did a little digging and H&M used "big is beautiful" to launch their plus size for 14+.

Big is not beautiful, and I hate how that slogan seems to apply only to overweight and obese women. A man who's fat can only be grotesque and repulsive, so right there seems to be a double standard.

According to women I know, the sizes of clothes have gradually changed over the years. So maybe what used to be one size is now a few sizes lower.

Sizes don't lie when you buy clothes that are actual measurements. Like my jeans are size 25-26 waist and sit on my hips. I wear a size 1 jeans for most places, and then at abercrombie somehow i come out as a 2 or 4?!? Most of my jeans are more expensive brands like Joes and Hudson and those go by actual measurements not "sizes".

I personally think any type of body/body part shaming is wrong. Who knows, I guess I was just raised with a different mentality than most people.

Ya what you said is true. Because the sizes are not across the board. I think some places intentionally number their clothing at lower sizes to boost confidence in the buyer lol.

Oh I totally get that. I didn't mean to make it seem that way. I just think it's equally wrong for skinny people to be shamed. I was raised to not judge people by their body type. My parents may have been crazy overly religious nuts, but they taught me a lot about acceptance.

Speaking of which, I've been a member of a looooot of forums, and this is the only one where I've seen excessive body/body part shaming. I find that interesting considering this is a hippie site.

I understand the skinny shaming (and because of that I'd like to think I understand how heavier people feel about it) When I was growing up I was a little slim and people used to comment on it all the time. It kind of got in my head and made me self-conscious about it. There was nothing wrong with me at all. I was just active, athletic and lean. There were years when I was in 5 sports or more. I just hadn't yet grown into my body but the comments did bother me after a while. There was nothing I seemed to be able to do to get bigger so I just tried to excel at sports to shut them up. Looking back...it was normally heavier people who gave me the most shit.
