I belong to the following group on MySpace:

    http://groups.myspace.com/barefootlife

The question was asked, Why don't hippies go barefoot anymore? I always thought it was considered "groovy" to not wear shoes, but I rarely if ever see anyone walking around barefoot. Can anyone shed light on this mystery?

I do. I'm a homeless hippy finishing high school and I don't normally have shoes on but I killed my shoes at one point and barefooted for a good two and a half weeks straight. with six mile walks in there to.

    I do all the time!
I wish business were more down, I have to carry flip-flops all the time for when I'm going into someplace.

i think they do not get have to go barefoot at all, cause it's pretty hot now, and so as the ground.

I love going barefoot :) but it can hurt i have gotten so many splinters in my feet ha. If it's a restraunt that requires shoes it might not be their fault rather the FDA's fault.

I go barefoot inside but outside I just can't get used to it. I don't like my feet feeling dry, like that feeling you get if you walk outside in dusty sand. I love it when the ground is wet or when there is some moisture on the ground (sand or grass) and I don't have that dry & dusty feeling.

    I love going barefoot :)
It's one of myfavorite parts of summer...being able to have my bare skin warmed by the sun, instead of having to hide under layers of clothes.
There's nothing like the feeling of grass on bare feet.
I go barefoot around my house, but when going out, I wear my flip flops.
I live in the city, and I'd rather not step on glass or a needle.
    It's sad, but true.

    Treasure barefooted-ness :D

i am usually barefoot. i have a little boy, and if im not barefoot i wont find the broken glass, sewing needles or thumbtacks before he does. when we moved into our apartment i stepped on a horrid piece of glass, an almost bled on the carpet. didn't hurt much though.

i need to pumice my feet. they arent callusing right for the summer. they are dry and need some love. ;)

I go barefoot pretty often, even when I am out in the streets. It's very natural and I find it so relaxing.
My friends and I think it's very cool to walk around barefoot.

I really like going barefoot but many places somehow dont allow. Work, school, shops, all of that and thats a pity. Also The floor in the city really hurts sometimes.

Barefooting seems to have become a rare thing in some places, especially in public.

I was at a big festival with a friend in an urban area on a sunny day with lots of warm cement and asphalt. Both of us had no shoes with us and were in long blue jeans. Everyone else was in shoes. A group of teen boys noticed us and one said curiously, "Are you two barefooted? Oh my! They have a mind of their own. I can't believe it. They actually think for themselves!"

That made me feel happy. I thought they were going to insult us for being without shoes and not conforming to fashion. Instead, they acted like we were an endangered species and were fascinated. :)
