Do you think it would be any healthier?
Seriously, this started out as a lame joke between friends, but now I really want to know...

Baked? Sort of, but usually only as an ingredient in something else. i.e. Chicken breast stuffed with Feta cheese, chopped spinach, green onions and Capers then wrapped with bacon strips. It's like sex on a plate. :D

I think bacon cannot be healthier since the piece itself has a ton of fat. Even if you bake it it will be floating on a big amount of oil.

    PS. Bacon is delicious.

Hmmmmm..... lent or bacon? bacon or lent???

BACON!!!!!!!! I could probably be vegetarian full time if it weren't for bacon.

lol.... I doubt baking it makes it any healthier. It's just too delicious to be healthy....

At work they used to cook bacon on one of those healthy grills - where all the fat runs out during cooking.

But either way, I won't be touching it.

when i went to daycare really young they would serve us pigs in a blanket but the pig was a sausage and the blanket was dough. I dont like hot dogs but if theres bacon around it then its probably magically delicious. specially if it's andouille mmm

Bacon is salty and fatty...it's never going to be health food no matter how you cook it.

    Indeed.

I've baked bacon before though. I just put bacon strips in the oven on a baking sheet, and turned them when they were ready. It's still greasy as fuck though, so there's really no point.

For me, there were lots of reasons to do it. I'm not even Catholic. It's a pretty personal thing... I don't know if I could explain it.
I do get Sundays off, though, because they're viewed as a mini-Easter, so you break the fast to feast. I think I'll stay up till midnight Saturday and make bacon. :D

    Yes it is...
It wouldn't be floating in oil if you baked it on a rack...
Either way, there would be lots of sodium, which is the worst thing about it, so yeah, it's just got death written all over it, lol. But what a way to die... ;)

fair enough. it just seems to me like it would be more productive to add a positive behavior than take away a negative one. running 5 miles a day or some shit like that. then you can eat all the mufuckin bacon you want :D

Well, here's the thing. I don't view meat-eating as strictly negative as I believe in a balanced diet based on the food chain, but there is a certain negativity associated with it- that being that animals die for it. Amongst other reasons, I'm taking time off from it in observance of the respect I hold for all God's creatures. It's certainly not permanent, but I figured a little over a month out of the 12 in a year couldn't hurt.

    Anywho, bacon!
I never really liked pigs anyway.

why do people go to church at all? lent is the same as any religious activity; people participate because they think god requires it.

you don't necessarily have to take away a negative behavior; that's just the most common way of observing it. lots of people do add positive behaviors. at the same time, lots of people take away a behavior that isn't even negative, but still hard for them to go without.

i love how the church keeps getting more and more lenient in its rituals in its desperation to keep people participating. by the time i'm old lent will probably be restricted to a single day.
