I believe the mechanism of human comprehension is limiting to the degree to where we are incapable of accurately grasping spiritual concepts. I suspect that a good number of the options intersect to where belief in one and disbelief in another is contradiction. I'm always learning and the one concept that continues to become increasingly clear is there is so much that I do not know. Religion and atheism are each by nature severely limiting.
I don't see how atheism could be limiting unless you were already predisposed to irrational thinking. Limiting in what way?
Yeah stinkfoot, that needs some more explanation. I'm mystified as to how the absence of a belief could be limiting.
I need a partial belief answer. I am not 100% believer in some of them-like ghosts, but I do lean towards them being real with lack of any other explanation ...and all of them I believe could be possible.
I really need to remember to word these as opinion and not fact. Bad habit of mine. Anyway... It limits by defining the absence of something- in this case a deity... though I suppose it would leave room for other possibilities. Unfortunately I will probably always reflect some earlier church oriented upbringing. Thanks for suggesting that I may practice irrational thinking though- it confirms that not everything is wrong in the universe. I did not actually participate in the poll as yet as I wanted to give some thought as to exactly what the possibilities might be for a few of the options- for instance aliens being one in the same as what the Christian folks might identify as God , Jesus, or an angel. I see Judeo-Christian figures represented along with some popularly mythical figures with the lack of Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. I am not very well read on religion in general so in a sense I feel that I lack some credibility in claiming any specific set of beliefs so expressing belief or disbelief would be imposing needless ethical constraints if I wish to be true to a specific creed.
I think I understood what your were saying Stinkfoot. We limit our consciousness with our 'beliefs or disbeliefs'. By believing a concept and adhearing to it religously, that in itself limits you from anything things else that may be availble. The fact that we exist at all takes the limits off, if you think about it. We take our own evolution away when we get stuck in or on one point of view or limiting creation to just our planet. To limit ourselves is to become stagnat in our thinking and growth. We close ourselves off and dwell within walls, limited space. I think it all exists, acording to your conscious level. Our fear keeps us from venturing past the walls we build. We seclude ourselves from the Universe as we cling to these fears as gods. I see no limit as to what we can/will become. As our consciousness expands so do our limits that we set on ourselves and the possibilities of evelution and our ability to connect with other demintions as we progress and lose our fears. If I think that one exists then I cannot claim the others do not. I must admit to myself that all things are possible. In my lifetime I have seen too many things that I would have never thought possible manifest right before my eyes, so my conclussion is, from my experience and learning is that I never put limits on faith or the energy that gives us life. It's bigger, more awesome then can be contained inside one thing or concept. There is too much, in it's vastness that hasn't even been tapped yet. It is endless and becomes more intence as it becomes apparent that it is limitless, timeless and all things exists acording to your reality. By putting a limit on your own possibilities you block off all other possibilities of existance and growth. Even by putting a lable on it limits it to be only that which you have labled it as, leaving no room from expanssion/evelution/growth. I think that is what is holding us back. Fear of change. Fear that we will lose something in the transaction. Fear that we are not strong enough to fulfill our desires. Fear of what others will think. Fear of being presicuted. Fear to be an individual. Fear to go against the system. So many fears I cannot name them all. To me, knowing what your up against is half the climb. Facing the challenges that we set for ourselves or others set for us is testing us on our ability to overcome these fears and go forward in our eveolution and grow into what we are to become and to free ourselves from the limits we create for ourselves. If that makes any sence in all this we call life. sh
