I believe "somehow" it ties into our life. My name is Jason which means healer. And before I knew this, I had already helped many of my friends through hard times in their life and still do. I guess you could say I've helped friends through chronic depression, drug addiction, etc. I've always been this way. I enjoy helping ppl in need especially ppl who are going through the same hardships I've faced and still do.

I don't really think so. Would I be a different person if I'd been named Craig, or Dennis? I doubt it.

What if your given name influences the way you are treated by your peers as a child? Surely this would have an impact on the type of person you are later in life.

Have you ever met a cool Hortense?;) Just kidding. But really, I think Sourdiesel06 brings up a good point. If it were without outside factors, I'd say probably not. But think back to grade school. Were the "cool" kids named Helga, Gertrude, and Agnes? Probably not. They probably had whaever names were trendy at the time. (i.e. Emily, Madison, Ashley, etc...) So I don't think the actual name really affects who you are, but I think that how people react to the name can.

Well, popularity in school generally depends on looks. I can't picture a good looking Helga, but there probably is one, and she's probably popular enough. Plus, she's probably got a bitchin' nickname.

I guess that's true. But like you said, certain names just seem to have a stigma attached to them.

Matthew is a Bible thumper name. That ain't me.

Matthew Lilliard is a pretty cool guy. Good actor too.

Personally I believe that society is what sculpts you as a human being, and your influenced by things in and around you. Therefore the name doesn't directly effect you unless it leads to some life experience, but that would be the life experience effecting you not the name, in my opinion. That's why to people who are both named John can lead to completely different lives. But that's also why if you name your kid Shitface its probably going to be pretty screwed up.

hmmm... my name (sean duh) means God is Gracious i guess, doesnt really correlate to me at all haha. but, my best friend in the whole worlds name is dakota (which means friend) so her name def. fits her haha.

other than that coincidence, i think it doesnt have an effect unless you have an extremely strange name and as a kid are made fun of, but thats not really the name, thats the asshole kids.
