Like Wikipedia, The Gurdian, or animal shelters. I am on several e-mail lists now and it never ends. No one ever has enough money and every cause is worth it to me. What charities are important to you? Many millions of people use wikipeida. If everyone gave $1 or $2 a year it would a lot but something like 90% of readers never do year after year. With this free culture of the internet many don't feel or see the need. What you want is there either by design or downloading. Yet someone has to research the journalism or get out on the streets and do the work. Before the internet we understood that I think.
A man from Gambia who says he has no job messaged me on twitter out of the blue. I was going to give him money, that he asked for, but now I'm having second thoughts. I mean, can your life really be that bad if you're on twitter? I don't know about this. When I have a debit card I usually give money to various charities, though. I gave after the tsunami in Japan on facebook and they gave me a flag for my farmville.
if i had anything to throw at them i would. environment things mostly. but a lot of things i support in spirit, just aren't likely to be fixed by throwing money at them. money can buy food, shelter, lawyers and advertising, but a lot of problems require cultural changes of perspective, a lot problems wouldn't even exist if it weren't for the priorities and perspectives of the dominant culture. i'd commission an lot of my fellow artists on fur affinity, and then there are some things i'd develop, test communities, if i really had wealth beyond any reasonable fantasies. species survival programs for endangered species. a lot things. protecting rainforests, indiginous cultures, even protesters. donating to local food banks, i have done that at times when i could. not sure how much that counts, because at other times i've also bennifitted from them.
No I Don't Anymore.....Since Learning Only 10% Of Money Donated Actually Filters Through To The People Who Need It.... Had A Classic Example Here In Australia A Few Months Back...... A Charity Was Set Up To Assist Aussie Farmers Seriously Hit By Drought......Turns Out The Peeps That Set It Up Were Operating Out Of A Very Expensive Office Complex......And A Half Dozen Of Them Were Driving Around In $90,000-00 Cars.....Tis Still Under Investigation As I Type................12 Months Ago Even The "Salvation Army" Came Under Investigation For A Similar Rort...... Tis Sad......Tis Sad Indeed...... Cheers Glen.
I have donated to Wikipedia a few times.. but it came up in another thread and what was said (and the articles I read off the back of the conversation) made me question whether I wanted to. In theory, I believe in helping fund it. As long as I am using HF and have the means, I will "support" here. I don't give to conventional charities because of things like Glen said above ^ I'd rather use the money for random acts of kindness towards strangers.

You dont need to donate to wikipedia Linux distros went decades with thousands of nerds contributing code done in their spare time. Wikipedia is the same, its still going to exist if you dont give money If you want to donate to 12yr old chinese kids, just buy the stuff they make at Walmart
Money is not always the solution. Many people just need a sincere friend to talk to and offer a little practical help. When our daughter works nights, she often spends time with the homeless guys sleeping rough in London, giving them advice on both shelters and finding help for any addictions. Some of their stories are heartbreaking. Perhaps one of her most rewarding moments was when a guy met her one evening during the rush hour and thanked her for her support, telling her that he had found a job at a hotel where he was allowed to sleep Cleaned up and with restored self confidence, she hardly recognized him until he spoke.
I agree with Glen, but still give to cancer, red cross, and a bit to the bell ringers. I think cancer research is far behind times. But I know people wo claim they don't want to find a cure. I hope that's not true.
I recently donated a lil money for the neighbourhood's cat surgery. Poor fluff, somebody shot it. I don't really donate to big charity organizations. Pretty much only smaller, more local ones. I tend to trust them more.
I give to a couple of nonprofit media companies, a TB charity in Haiti that I'm pretty familiar with, and to an indigenous education organization. Locally, I used to give a lot of time to the soup kitchen and shelter, but that isn't an option as much anymore now that I have kids.
I give to local homeless ministries and other local groups. I don't give to the larger charities as much anymore, after learning what their top management earns in salaries and bonuses. (All ''bonuses'' should go to those in need that these charities are advocating for, imo)
I echo what others have said about big charities, I am hesitant about them. But when stores do their "would you like to donate $1 to red cross/st. Judes/etc thing at the register I always say yes because what's a dollar anyways I've never donated to wikipedia but I do donate to NPR I do a lot of go fundmes...for house fires, medical bills, pet surgeries, things like that
