i've been ill once in nearly a year and a half, and the last time i got sick it was due to lack of sleep i 'spect..

so do you ever get any illnesses... including colds? (ive had no colds since february of 04, i do believe). i wonder if there's anyone else like this.. the rest of my family eats a lot of meat, and my parents and brother seem to be sick all the time (they dont smoke). i'm wondering if there's a connection....

i never get sick, i had a cold in january that lasted two days and i didn't even feel sick i just sneezed occasionally and had a runny nose!

i think it has a lot to do with your attitude towards food though, for instance if are vege but just eat ready meals, fast food all the time still then i don't think you see the benefits.

i think where your immune system is boosted is when you look at the quality of the food you put in your mouth.

even if you are eating lots of fruit and veg, caffeine, alcohol, smoke and artificial additives can stop the vitamins and minerals being absorbed by your body.

(although i smoke rollies and drink lots of wine, oh well!)

I have always been very healthy, and barely sick. in school I had noumerous perfect attendance certifficates. But I am only veggie since about 2 years or 2.5.

My family naver ate a lot of meat, and the meat we ate came from an eco-farmer right around the corner. So even when eating meat one can still make healthy choices.
But a big part, I believe my health is comming from, is also that I almost never got antibiotics. I think they are way overused. My mom gave us time to fight the disease on our own, if we ever got sick, and that also developps your immune system.

Cool stories. So it's not just me. I haven't been sick since 2000, which was the year I gave up meat. Coincidence?:D

I get sick more often than most vegans/veggies, but I think it has more to do with my lifestyle aside from my diet. I only get about 5 hours of sleep every night, I'm a fairly heavy smoker, and before I became a vegan I had difficulties with eating [which i don't feel like getting into explaining]... However, I have noticed that I get ill a lot LESS OFTEN. And, I recover from it extremely fast. Fuck, I used to get colds back before I went veggie, and they'd last me a good two months, no lie. Now, it's a week or two, and I'm good as new again :)

I haven't been sick since I gave up meat. I've had cramps in my stomach once and a while but they only last a few hours.

I never used to get sick until this year when I had insomnia... and would get 2 to 3 hours of sleep everynight,.... and that went on for like 6 months.,... which made me really sick... but I think if I slept more I would not get sick so often.

I've been vegetarian since I was 12 (now 23) and am hardly ever ill.

I have puked once in the last 11 years (had a chest infection which I caught from working in the hospital).

I do get colds, maybe once a year or so, and I have asthma. Thats about all. I tend to recover pretty fast from things.

Having said that my husband is also vegetarian and is ill quite often- 24 hour stomach bugs and so on. I tend to eat a bit better than he does on occasions when we are eating something different from each other, can't tell whether that has anything to do with it.

I did see a vegan with scurvy once! She never ate any vegetables though. All she ever ate was coffee and toast (I mean she had never eaten anything else for the past 20 years). Kind of makes the point that its not just the lack of meat that makes us healthy, you have to eat the right stuff as well!

I've only ben vegitarian for about 7 months. During that time I got really sick once with a flu. I was bedridden for 3 days. I also threw up a lot for the first two days, and was a bit dehydrated at times. However I did recover. My bro (who had been vegitarian for almost 10 months at that point) was only sick for 2 days. On the other hand, my parents, both of whom eat meat, were sick with the flu for 6 days. At the moment I have a cold. It's nothing serious though, just a runny nose (which gets annoying) and the occasional sneeze. I dont feel sick though. I'll prolly be better by satuerday.

It takes a long time for me to get sick, but it's usually just a cold if at all (it usually disappeers in one week).

    I'm a healthy little girl. :)
