I guess we haven't done enough damage in Iraq. Those fighting Bush's Empire are still preventing Halliburton from stealing much oil.

I don't think there's a reason to worry about a draft at this point. I really doubt it will happen, there's no way it'll pass thru congress. So many people have said so many times that they don't want a draft.

If I start to hear real, serious talk about a draft, I'll worry then. But right now, I really doubt it'll happen.

Conscientious Objector Status: This is a way that may protect you from fighting war if you do not believe that war is a good solution to our problems.

A Conscientious Objector is a person who objects to participation in all forms of war, and whose belief is based on a religious, moral, or ethical belief system.

There isn't going to be a draft. Should a draft occur it may call up 20k people tops. Old fashioned massive drafts aren;t needed in mordern war.

    Unfortunately.....you are probably wrong..

The main reasons that they would re-instate the draft is b/c for 1, there is a DECLINE in new enlistments into the armed services and for 2, there is a DECLINE in re-enlistment after tours of duty are finally over and, last but not least, 3, Bush and his minions keep finding MORE places to fuck with over OIL.

So, they may have to play it the old fashioned way, just to keep it all going.

Sadly, the US is starting to remind me of the "Empire" from the Star Wars movies.

I must agree with sodabandito. For one thing the US government wouldn't even bother spending trillions of dollars on a program to make enlistment mandatory if it encompassed less than 72% of the qualified population. That wouldn't look good on the spreadsheet.
So, what the government would have to do is expand the existing war - or talk us into a new, better, bigger one. Of course the latter would also require we dip deeper into the budget, but why should we earmark these monies to help support old, disabled, incompetent, or previously enlisted individuals anyway, We're fighting a war here, for God's sake.
Is there a draft on the horizon? Who knows. Rumsfeld, maybe. Hopefully we won't be forced into giving them a chance to start it, but it's not looking too promising is it? They've already managed to bypass the UN, I doubt if it would take half that much backing to override the Senate.

Army recruiters remind me of wormwood in C.S. Lewis' the screwtape letters... You get the feeling that if they don't get four people a month it's off to the pits with 'em.
I used to get em all the time until i told them i'd join if i wouldn't have to do any push ups, sit ups, or run very much and could wake up anytime i'd like.... they stopped calling... :)
