There was a point in time where I would say yes, drugs opened my senses to many wonderful things and to an extent I still do. At the end of the day, they do in a sense open the doors of the mind - bring on a sensation that is altered from a sober state.

On the same token, other stimulus put you in a place that is off balance from the norm. Many experiences - intense love, heart wrenching loss, fear - just what we encounter everyday

So, I don't necesarilly do drugs or anything for that much to get in tune with my spirituality, in general I ust group drugs with everything else and reel it in like in all of life's offbeat experiences and walk with it.

I understand completely what ya mean, I hope one day I don't need them at all, but right now they help me big time with concentrating while I'm meditating. you'd think it would be the other way around but when I'm completely sober I have to much junk in my head, being high gets my mind in the mood to be quiet....

first off, you're absolutely absolutelyyy beautiful. i've haven't signed onto hipforums for a little over a month, and have been surrounded by uglyhearted college girls around here in the dorms =\ the first post i read, i see such a beautiful face, and such a great post which i sense a beautiful person. =)

secondly, here we go =): i think about this a lot too. drugs have opened me up to a world i have no clue if i would have ever seen if it weren't for drugs. i like to think alot of the person i am is influenced from getting high and tripping (not the use, but the effects and benefits). they showed me such beautiful things, and the way i think on drugs, especially meditate, is hgfcu65efydr4edkh, love. but these last several months i've been noticing that i saw so much of what i needed to see, heard so much of what i needed to hear, on drugs, and now i think that i truly can get along without them. i still smoke, but i cut down ALOT. i used to smoke throughout the day, everyday, now i keep it simply at night, after i get some studying and reading out of the way, and i truly love it. I make sure not to trip tooooo habitually, but have had my eye on that for over a year now (i noticed myself tripping too often, and well, detaching a bunch, regardless how 'spiritual' i was becoming). right now, i just feel like what i learned, who i am, is still growing, and will ALWAYS ALWAYS be growing, drugs or no drugs. my spirituality maybe isn't as strong as it is throughout a normal day as it is when i'm trippppppin, but, who's is? i am definitely a spiritual being, cherish nature and love with all my heart and soul, and these last few months, truly have been enjoying some clearheadedness. i hope you can relate a little to this, because i think i truly can relate to your post =) peace and love. ~ethan

you're so sweet, and I can relate.
I just have a hard time letting go of that feeling. but I know my spiritual experiences will be so much more pure and REAL if I can accomplish enlightenment soberly.

I think its hard to define 'spirituality' in this sense caus doing spiritual practice is a complex thing.

i have a belief on spirituality and i believe that if i was into any spiritual path that it would be enhanced from weed. Since im atheist, i sense a feeling that is strange to explain but i see it as being my mind's version of what spiritual people experience.

i see everything in the world as the near infinitely complex matrix of physicality and it brings with it a huge sense of beauty in everything. the complexity in absolutely everything. nature is so much more beautifulk however because it is alive, a huge chemical reaction, constantly changing, complexly 'designed'. artificial things are really simple, so theyre not as interesting, even though fascinating none the less. complex electronics are pretty cool.

though this is on weed. ive not experiemented on other drugs enough to have such a say in how they affect me, except alchohol and that doesnt make spirituality enhance, i feel it just makes me indifferent and not really care about things like that. enjoyable but meaningless.

Praying at the altar "Oh god, please, blehhhhhhhhh, oh I'll never do this again, barf" is about as spiritual as alcohol ever got for me. But I know others who would disagree and that's cool. They can do their thing, I can do mine. Over a couple thousand years, Marijuana has been revered throughout several cultures for it's spiritual properties. Marijuana has a long standing place in our little spinning rocks history. Over time I think I've come to respect that plant and how it can change ones path.

everything i do is spiritual...meaning every expirience offers a lesson to be learned. so yes i do find certin drugs to be spiritual...mostly just psychedelics though. the psychedelics have a way of removing the film from ones eyes and showing him just what he needs to see...as long as one is open to the expirience of course.

    Druken Enlightenment IS possible.

Even a crackhead may find meaning at the bottom of the barrell.

Spirtituality is a product of drug use. You feel more spiritual because you ARE more spiritual!

I wouldn't have done them if I didn't, I don't understand the alcohol, it is something to look at situations through new eyes like so,
Marijuana - eyes of a new
Mushrooms - eyes of the world
Salvia - eyes of the mind
    Opium - eyes of acceptance
Alcohol - Mind of an Idiot

I think most drugs have a spiritual value just on numerous different levels. Now this is just my opinion but even if you're an atheist you can experience spirituality, and that was one big reason I had always disagreed with Nietzsche's "The Anti-Christ" and I think that is because spirituality is so much more than religion, but I think it's easier to approach spirituality through a religion and thats one reason most people choose a path to "god" or maybe just a path thats purpose is to keep the "perpetual" existence our world in balance. Or maybe because the only way we experience true happiness is when we have something to look forward to? After all the thought of a blissful after life, or going to a concert next weekend makes us feel good doesnt it? Now if you look at individual religions the drug and spiritual correlation is so prevelant it will blow your mind. Look at Buddhism, now though the spiritual practice of a Buddhist doesn't approve of intoxicants, the energy level one uses his religion/spiritual philosophy to study is an atomic energy level of conciousness that can easily be explored by substances such as LSD and STP. For a Hindu the energy level his spiritual philosophy studies is one on a cellular energy level and it is not uncommon for some one who ingests peyote, psilocybin, or yage to reach the same level of conciousness temporarily as a yogi or some one who has practiced the spiritual sacrament of prolonged fasting. For Tantra the level of energy conciousness is explored on a sensual basis, and substances like MDMA, Hash, and MDA can provide one with similar sensory experiences especially in sexual situations. As far as the religious practices of Zen, Sufism, early Christianity, and orthodox or Hasidic practices go they tend to explore a sensory level of conciousness which is also explored by many of us in this room who often smoke marijuana on a daily basis or even every now and then. For religions like Judaism & Protestantism a mental/social level is explored, and a similar level of conciousness is achieved when one ingests caffeine, pep pills, and other minor stimulants. Now for the final religions that I've really thought about, we have Catholicism & Fundamentalism, and they explore a level of conciousness which I like to call emotional stupor because of the numerous rituals that are constantly being performed, they're extremely numbing and one can reach this level of conciousness with a moderate dose of alcohol. But I think that one of the most important aspects of spirituality is the level of conciousness one is on and these are very hard to achieve for most people in this westernized culture because there are so many levels of spirituality we can't touch upon. But with certain substances we can open the doors to these ideas, and levels of conciousness much easier. A lot of spirituality and morality is really just positive ideas, and I feel many substances provide is with similar positive ideas.

I have had some absolutely amazing experiances on lsd. I think the first time i ate lsd it really opened my eyes to a more spiritual side of myself. I was at a new years party and it was snowing outside and i watched the wall (the pink floyd movie not the actual wall) for the first time. i was trippin so hard i was sucked into the movie and it really touched me and made me think as i related it to my own life.(damn i love pink floyd) But that was about 5 years ago. Just recently i had another spiritual experiance at sound tribe sector 9 in atlanta. I ate a bunch of acid and molly and everyone in the place was just going crazy. When they played Breathe In (my fav sts9 song) i felt the spirit of the whole place courseing through me. it was beautiful. After the show i felt very motivated and thankful. it was a very good turning point in my life to keep me on track.
