All i really see hear are paintings, drawings, etc. So if i'm posting this in the wrong place, just move it, i guess. But it is my art. I carve "things" and weird stuff, that looks like they would decorate the mantle of an alien being far off somewhere. They are all one piece of wood, and this one is made of salvaged pecan. Plus, i just wanted to redefine what people think, when they think of a clawfoot. Like a clawfoot table or something. This is my clawfoot bowl, and looks like it would grab onto something, lol.
yepp i like it and i think its art. ^.^ i don`t think i would be abel to do it myself. so im impresst.
Thank you! and yes, it's made from a piece of wood from a pecan tree. The same tree that gives us the pecans. It's really really tough wood though. Well, if people like this, I'll post another, in another thread that I made recently. Peace!
I've sold plenty of regular bowls, and vases, and kitchen stuff, like rolling pins. But i've not sold any of my carved pieces yet. I don't have a local market yet, where people would pay enough for the work that goes into it. But our local art museum, just told me today that they'll try and sell some of my work next month. Which would be great. I have a mentor for this stuff, and he's the only person i know who carves legs and things into his bowls like i do. He has half the museum right now dedicated to his work, if you wanted to look at his stuff, u can go to a link where his work was written about in the local paper as "works of genius", lol. He's one of my best friends, and def not a genius lol. Just a "master timewaster" as he puts it. So i call myself an "apostle of timewasting" lol. But here's the link. http://www.gadsdentimes.com/article...1016/NEWS?Title=Museum-gets-new-display-cases Down below the main picture, there is a link that says "More Photos: GMA presents works of genius" Anyway, he's going to sell in there too. They wanted me to put some of my work in there a couple months ago, just for display, but i'd rather have it at home with me, where friends can pick them up and feel them, because at the museum, they're in glass, and no one can feel them. I'm going to base my prices around what he's selling for, so we're not over or under selling each other. Hopefully, we'll each do well. Although, i don't have as much made as he does. He moved to hawaii when he was my age, and made his money selling his work down there. But he moved back up here 15 years ago, and hasn't tried to sell any of it since then. So neither of us know what the market will bear, for stuff nobody else does but us, haha. We'll see.
Thanks! I sell most of my less expensive stuff at a place in mentone, alabama called The Wildflower Cafe. It's a really really heady place. It's run by a friend of mine, and his wife, who is an herbalist. So their "cafe" is also an organic/herb store/art gallery/crafts show/gourmet food place. With live music almost always. Yeah, i'm giving them a plug. If you're ever going by mentone, check them out, for real. Sooo, i took some of my nicer stuff up there yesterday, like some nice carved vases, and other cool stuff, from about $300 down to $70. I wanted to see how they would do up there, finally. Problem was, my timing is really bad, lol. I got there at 12, like an igmo. And instead of just doing an inventory sheet, and putting my stuff on shelves, it was a madhouse type environment, where i sat right in the lobby, for 2 hours or so, surrounded by all my woodwork, and throngs of people waiting to be seated. So i wound up having an all out "meet and greet" with all kinds of people. It was really cool, even though i'm an introvert and spend most of my time by myself. Maybe my social inadequacies didn't put too many people off, .
I'm in an art and design course: Yes. I do infact consider this art. It's beautiful. I think my prof's would dig it.
Of course it's art! It has such texture... You've done an amazing job. You made the pecan wood look like skin on the claw foot! You will do well selling to art collectors. Keep up your art, it's wonderful.
