And if ya do, what is it? I'm using this whole living-far-away-from-people-and-cities time to write alotta songs with little to no distractions... My goal is to have atleast 40 Oasis-esqe rock 'n' roll songs, and a few VUish pre-punk rock songs (around 3 albums worth), by the time I move, which I assume will be late April/early May... I've got over 60 songs of my own that I like, but more than 40 of them are meant to be acoustic Syd Barrett-type songs... after I move I wanna start a band where I'd be lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist/frontman that plays local parties and gigs, just to season myself with playing in front of a live crowd -- I've only done so once, and that was just singing. If I can find people that I really enjoy playing with, I might stay in the States and try and get signed over here... but what I really want to do is move to England by the time I turn 18 (late august) and start with a whole new band over there, and work my way to getting signed in the U.K. I know you're not supposed to plan ahead or things never work out, but hey, I like to dream
Don't have a backup plan and your first plan will work much more reliably. I plan to wait around and see what happens till I'm 17 or 18, then I'll consider getting signed and all of that. I'd rather just be a semi-famous folk/blues musician, I'd like to do an album with meg. She's planning on moving to the states then.
My plan is to keep doing what I've been doing for the past 3 years: enjoying my day job, and not stressing about trying to make a living as a musician. I play what I want, when I want, and am not beholden to gig or record or do this or that by anyone and their team of lawyers to fulfill some contractual obligation. Besides, rock-star fame and fortune is just an illusion-- disbelieve or proceed at your own risk!
I'm with you there, except I record when I want and plan to distribute how I want. Getting "signed" is selling your soul away, as well as your wallet. Here's a great article by Steve Albini detailing exactly how the industry works, and I have quite a few friends in the exact situation he outlines... http://www.kittyfeet.com/albini.htm
my dream is to finish college...move to cyprus for a year come back buy a house in primrose hill central london play/attend loads of indie/rock/punk gigs and be in a "proper" relationship with this guy im totally into...also i hope his dreams come true to...i think he wants his band to do pretty well...well their single is being released soon so heres hoping but im not expecting anything to happen like this...like you said its good to dream though
solo artists are amazing i have loads of respect for them...but i think maybe you might have more of a chance of producing better music if there are 3 or 4 people all inputing their ideas and bringing their musical tastes together to make some rockin' tunes
hi there. hahahah yes. what george said. and i'm gonna write all my songs in sleezy pubs and in a mountain cabin in the APPALACHAINS AHAHAH
my plan started at age 14 when i picked up the guitar...to keep playing, get into new bands when one ends, and to keep doing it really. I'm 32 and playing about 3 shows a month....hopefully this summer we will tour a little bit, and at least hit Cleveland, New York City, and Chicago. Sometimes i want to move to Spain and start playing flamenco, but for now I'm stuck in the rust belt, and when in the rust belt, do as the rust belters do.
bands suck, except YES. I will always keep my talent to myself, my girl, my kid, and my close freinds and family.
Agreed... It's wonderful that we have all this technology at our disposal now-- we have cheap digital recording devices (no more expensive studio and tape costs) and the internet as a means of circumventing traditional music-industry marketing/distribution models! That Albini article rocks (and is hilarious to boot), I read that a couple years ago and have passed it along to several starry-eyed friends and musical acquaintances...
My plan is just to continue on with music, as I have since I was in diapers. I'm planning on going to university to study music next year, and then hopefully get a job as a studio musician, or something like that. I can make my living with music, as well as work on my own stuff, with my own band. I don't plan on ever getting signed or anything, but if it happens, it happens, I suppose.
I just want to keep writing my songs and playing them. If I'm good enough people will notice. I think I'd like to be a solo man, but have a band for my more rocknroll songs. That band is called The Wolf.
I want to finnish writing my current album (you can hear some stuff in another thread in this forum) and record and mix it all myself, or maybe get some friends together an make a little band to play my stuff and whatnot. ive got a punkrock sorta band but there isnt too much ambition cept from me. i think ill wanna keep that up though too. i like writing in all genres. but i never try to emulate another style, though i do try to emulate and combine techniques of other bands n stuff. with these two projects underway id like to write some synth pop / dance stuff, but with my own spin, and try my hand at experimental music, like using sounds of nature and unusual instruments. i also wanna get into film and get some acting going, maybe have a small film group. ideally what i want is to have a group of artists and we are just like a creation group, writing all types of music, making film, making visual art, writing texts, making social impact, etc. But make sure that its always open ended and of course all sorts of breakup scenarios would be planned and hopefully work out. i want to affect the world through art, philosophy, and politics. im not content with anything unless its recognised somehow. and i want to be recognised for all that im worth! and make that alot! hell i want invent things even. im too ambitious!
I think I'd rather be signed to a major label than be independent. If my music is good, I'd like to have it get mainstream airplay and help save rock 'n' roll.
