As a teenager I've always thought that patriotism was extremely weak, but as I've grown I feel closer and closer to what I call my homeland. My case may be somewhat unique, since Israel is the only place where my kind can live without getting too persecuted (other than Amerikuh, obviously... Europe is rather antisemitic though). I will probably end up back in Israel within the next couple of years, and I don't mind it that much anymore, while I used to detest the idea. I don't even mind having to go into the army for a year or so. I'd love to do something like intelligence corps.

So, do you love your country? Do you like your country? Do you have feelings for your country? Or is it just some piece of land.

I expect must Americans to answer "no", and hell... I would easily say "no" if I was American myself, I guess.

Do you think that your character has been shaped by your country and the social environment it structures and promotes?

    So on and so forth.

I love the US of A, but it's slowly becoming something our founding fathers DID NOT intend it to be. This country was founded on the live and let die principle, now you can't even make the decision if you want to wear a seat belt or not! I hate what it's becoming... I know that sounds like a trivial issue, which it really is, but it's the principle of it...and there is much much more I don't feel like getting into haha

I think that you have a very idealized version of America. I don't think it was ever necessarily "better" than it is now. Well, at least not since WWII.

It used to be much more libertarian though, but at the same time... it was much more backwards socially (and still is) than Europe, per example.

my love i would say is more for what it and the people of it once were rather than what it has become today.

believe it or not ive seen a lot of change on many levels in this country over the last 40 years. most of it for the bad..

really is a sad thing to me. to watch the slow death of a once great nation of people.

I know how you oppose it politically, yet I do not think that it has changed much politically over your lifetime.

One could argue that it changed socially, but we arguably have more freedoms now and are progressing towards further freedom. (you will probably disagree with me on this though)

    OK. [IMG]

I do imagine that American society wasn't so cultureless, drugged out, and dull back in the day.

i think this is a pretty fair assessment of how far we have come in 50 years.

    High School: 1957 vs. 2009

and i can remember 40 of them..

    something really wrong there..

I've read that thread. It's extremely exaggerated, but does make a good point or two.

I really don't like what the U.S. has become socially on a larger scale...

But at the same time people leave me the fuck alone here and even tolerate my blatantly annoying lulzy atheism and drunken loud ramblings about alligator sex and the like in public. That ain't bad.

The scenarios always show the most extreme case in 2009.
