I personally think so. To me, anything that produces an intense experience like that of LSD in particular can't be mentally healthy. My psychologist has worked for 20+ years in the field of drugs and mental health and is adamantly against the use of LSD or any other recreational drug. I'm a cannabis user and I agree with her, except for her opinion against cannabis.
everything alters brains chemistry from the foods you eat to the air you breath...so yes lsd alters brain chemistry so does holding your breath as you grunt out a really big dump....
Changes it? Yes. Fucks it up? Well, that depends on your definition of what "fucked up" means. If you mean, does long term use of the drug impair your cognitive abilities, no, as evidenced by many people (some of them famous) who've done the drug on a continuous basis since the 60's and had no ill effect. Albert Hoffmann is 100 and seems to still be going strong. Some people, the likes of Ozzy Osborne and others, have had ill effect because of the multitude of drugs they've done in addition to LSD. I've only had three experiences with LSD, but I still think pretty much the same way I always have. I still write exceedingly good essays and such, and I've been getting better grades since those experiences. I would say that it's not directly because of the drug, as I said, I still think the same way, but I do attribute a lifestyle change to those experiences. It alters the brain chemistry in exactly (ok, not EXACTLY) the same way that other drugs, such as SSRI's do, by controlling levels of seretonin and dopamine in the brain. The drug exists the bloodstream in a few hours, and the chemical changes it produces wear off mostly in 12 or so hours with maybe up to a month or so for all the effects to completely wear off. Around 1% (or less) of the actual drug itself crosses the blood-brain barrier, meaning that almost none of the already miniscule amount of the drug enters your brain. I know two teachers at my former high school that used to dose on a consistant basis back in the day. Does LSD "fuck up the brain's chemistry?" Experience points to no.
well if you abuse the shit out of it, there is a chance that you will fuck yourself up mentally, and there is evidence of that. completely rearraning and fucking up your brain chemistry? i doubt it, just really messing yourself up mentally
In Holland they use LSD therapeutically to help with mental conditions. Maybe your psychologist should read some work from OUTSIDE the USA.
i always hated psychologists anyways, always trying to make you come back and for what? for you to waste money? fuck that
Well, she advises against me using ANY recreational drug due to my "fragile brain chemistry". I already take Paxil (25mg), Adderall (40mg), and Abilify (10mg) and I smoke cannabis weekly and drink occasionally. She says recreational drugs put an additional load on my liver and negatively affect my mental and physical health. I can't help but be skeptical of what she says. She says she gets most of her info from an amalgamation of a huge amount of scientific studies and research, though I've never actually seen these studies myself.
No, but she does have the credentials and experience. I have no experience or credentials in the field of LSD but she says she does, even though she probably never actually took the drug. At this point, I'm not sure.
If you don't think LSD CAN fuck up your brain chemistry, you don't have a fucking clue, and should get off the damn internet and experience other people in the world for a change. Before anyone attempts to jump down my throat, it doesn't ALWAYS have that effect, but in some people it does. I know some of you idiots worship the drug like its a religion, so don't start crying, and yes, I've had my share.
You have to keep in mind that psychologists and physicians are taught extensively in the ethics of medicine/healing. Right now psychedelics are illegal and are presumed by the government (which regulates their education) to be harmful and unethical. With psychedelics your mileage may vary. Are some people harmed by them? Absolutely. There are a small number of people who develop HPPD and it does not go away. As a psychologist this would be my primary concern.
you're on THREE non-"recreational" prescription drugs and this bitch is telling you that LSD and weed fuck up your "fragile" brain chemistry? this is fucking hilarious. do you have any idea how bad those drugs that you're taking are? do you have any idea that all of those prescriptions are infinately more toxic than either LSD or THC? do you realize that alcohol does an insane amount of damage to your brain in comparison to these "recreational" drugs? "fragile" brain chemistry; lol. just wait until those prescription meds catch up with you. this "psychologist" seems to have a negative bias toward the "fun" drugs found in the street yet she subscribes to the lucrative and dangerous prescription drug industry. if it's legal, then it's safe for your brain and body. what a load of bullshit.
SliceNDice, You asked: "Do you think LSD fucks up the brain's chemistry? Dr. Albert Hofmann (the discoverer of d-LSD-25) believes that LSD has no toxic effects to human tissue (unless taken in an insanely high dose - like 120,000 ugms). Scientists haven't come up with any definate conclusions as to how LSD works (i.e. effects the body and brain). Some scientists believe that LSD only stays in the body about 20 minutes and leaves, meaning it creates a "cascade (of falling dominoes)-effect" and triggers some other body chemical to do the actual tripping. LSD sets off a chemical chain of events in the body and brain, but may not be the actual tripping molecule. No definate answers yet. I believe that the effects, and after effects, of LSD are mostly MENTAL, anyway. It just reveals (and amplifies) what's in your head, whether it's good, bad, or even psychotic. It reveals (and amplifies), not causes! Your subconscious mind hides (or "compartmentalizes") some things that your conscious mind can't deal with, and an LSD trip may bring these things up, that shouldn't be brought up, until sometime in the far future (when the conscious mind can deal with them), or even never (if bad enough). It's a known fact that strong emotions (and some persistant thoughts) can actually cause physical effects and illnesses. Even without taking LSD. Stress, and high anxiety states, may lead to ulcers and/or heart attacks, maybe due to the body's release of excess adrenaline (like amphetamine), causing these effects. In QUANTUM PHYSICS, it is believed that "Thought structure matter." So the mind is a dangerous thing to mess with, especially if you release the monsters and demons in your subconscious mind, that should remain caged (or "suppressed"), until your conscious is able to deal with them, at the proper point in time. Your "shrink" should know about "suppressed sub-conscious material". It's a defense mechanism of the human mind. LSD trippers usually claim that "the acid experience" changed them, somehow, usually in a more positive direction. I am no exception, on this belief. This belief is a major component of our HOLOGRAPHIC (or QUANTUM PHYSICS) UNIVERSE: "All things are interconnected. All things are interconnected in the microcosmos. Connections cannot be perceived in ordinary states of consciousness. You cannot move without moving everything in your universe. You cannot even observe anything without changing the object and even yourself. It is possible that just THINKING about an object can change it and yourself. All the universe is alive, all the universe is interconnected." ("Quantum of energy from an energy source touches the object, causes the atoms to vibrate, subtly changing the object. Reflected energy from the object touches and changes the observer.") SPACE-TIME AND BEYOND, By Bob Toben and Fred Alan Wolf, BANTAM BOOKS, NY, c 1975, 1982, pgs. 33-38. The movie: THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT make use of this concept, but adds multiple universe theory, into the mix. When a butterfly flaps its wings, it shakes the entire universe (on a very subtle level). It also starts a small change, which "snowballs" into larger changes. In a nuclear reaction, one atom effects another atom, which effects another atom, and so forth. This is because of the "interconnectedness" of the universe". The "interconnectedness" of the universe (like a "hologram") can be experienced on LSD, because it is an ALTERED STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS, into "hyper-space--time dimensions". You can learn DIRECTLY about QUANTUM PHYSICS by acid-tripping, with no books! Direct experience learning! Or what has been known (from ancient times) as SHAMINISM! Taking LSD changes you and your universe simultaneously. It's the way our universe was designed. Stanislav Grof's LSD trippers learned that this concept is true. They experienced it directly! Scientists have proven that atoms can communicate with ALL other atoms in the universe at infinite speed! SCALER ELECTROMAGNETICS is part of this. ARTICLE: The Holographic Universe - Does Objective Reality Exist?, By Michael Talbot (3-12-6) LINK: www.rense.com/general69/holoff.htm. SKIP mentions that LSD is a useful psychiatric tool. IBOGAINE and ECSTACY have been used as usefull psychiatric tools, too. Timothy Leary used LSD PSYCHOTHERAPY to cure alcoholics (and criminals) and had the highest success rate of 66%! But Tim also states that LSD isn't for everbody! "STANISLAV GROF, M.D., began his research into the psychotherapeutic uses of LSD in 1960 at the Psychiatric Reserach Institute in Prague, Czechoslovakia." - LSD PSYCHOTHERAPY, By Stanislav Grof, M.D., HUNTER HOUSE, Almeda, CA, c 1980. 1994, Back Cover. Stanislav Grof, M.D. excells in this type of therapy. Sometimes physical diseases are even eliminated! LSD PSYCHOTHERAPY can sometimes work miracles! Here's what CARY GRANT (the famous actor) had to say about his LSD PSYCHOTHERAPY experiences: "Cary Grant first took LSD under the guidance of Dr. Mortimer Hartmann and then with Dr. Oscar Janiger. His therapy was such a success that he became a zealous missionary for LSD. "All my life," Grant stated, "I've been searching for peace of mind. I'd explored yoga and hypnotism and made several attempts at mysticism. Nothing really seemed to give me what I wanted until this treatment." ACID DREAMS, By Martin A. Lee & Bruce Shlain, GROVE PRESS, NY, c 1985, 1992., pg. 57. One scientific study, with sensible and controlled doses of LSD, stated that LSD can actually increase one's IQ, up to 17%! I'm still searching for the link to this statement. Abuse of LSD, with way too high doses and/or too frequent use can cause more problems, than it solves. Especially with no proper guidance. Extended psychological damage may occur. Things must be properly used to work. Don't they? You must properly use your car, for it to work correctly. Or a can opener, or whatever. It's only common sense! School kids love to stick pencils up their noses, but the pencil is not used properly that way. Is it? There are MIND DRUGS. There are BODY DRUGS. LSD is a MIND DRUG. Mystics and "acid heads" maintain that the universe is a "head trip". "Thought structures reality." OUR REALITY! See THE MONKEES movie: HEAD (DVD: RHINO HOME VIDEO/R2 4460). Jack Nicholson helped to write and produce this movie. Good old Jack took some "Magical Mystery Tours" back then, if you know what I mean? Our planet - EARTH or TERRA - is expanding. Our universe is expanding. WE ARE EXPANDING. We dance toward the infinite, but never reach it, for if we do, the dance ends. We strive for truth, but cannot reach it, for if we do, our quest ends. The "magic" is in the JOURNEY, and not the DESTINATION. As in the SAMUEL BECKETT play (in the 60's?), we are: WAITING FOR GODOT. But GODOT never comes! He promises to come, everday! A pattern of "waiting" is created, to give our life meaning (in a seemingly random universe). If GODOT did come, our lfe would lose its meaning. There is no beginning, or no end, only change and "experiences". Ken Kesey says something similar: "The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer -- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer." -KEN KESEY (www.intrepidtrips.com) Peace out. Trip out. Into infinite mind expansion.
Probably not...but here's a post from an HPPD forum. Drug induced disorders as ive recently discovered are generally caused by 3 factors: 1. Drugs stay in your system for longer than you think as they build up in the gonads which stores unconciousness. From there they are slowly released which causes trippyness. LSD is extremely severe, it can stay in your system for up to 65 years and can burn holes in your brain. 2. Partly because of this, chronic holes will are formed in the aura, through which comes a constant stream of otherworldly entities and energies. Head pressure is caused by this. 3. Finally the pineal gland adjusts to producing chemicals which make you trip, and its functioning alters so it will "want" you to be on the other side. I ask all of you brain chemists to tell me what chemicals could be used to change back the working of the pineal gland.
^I agree with PurpleGel's post above ^ that PAXIL can mess up your brain, way more than LSD can. Most prescription drugs are highly toxic, with many side-effects. LSD is virtually non-toxic, unless taken at way insane doses. LSD's danger is psychological, not really physical. Most of those kids that shot-up the schools (like COLUMBINE) were on SSRI's, like PROZAC or PAXIL. Some ex-CIA agents - like Gunther Russbacher (www.rumormillnews.com) and private investigators (like Joe Vialls-Otto Jewell Vialls-/Australia - www.vialls.com and www.vialls.net) believe that these kids were probably level 3 mind control MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE's. The HEGALIAN purpose being to get U.S. citizens mad at firemans, to give up all firearms, so that a New World Order-Globalist-Fascist dictatorship can take over. Adolph Hitler removed all firearms in Germany, before establishing his dictatorship. Recently, all guns in Australia were outlawed, because of a psyop-staged terrorist event in Port Arthur, Tasmania, Australia, involving "patsy" Martin Bryant, who allegedly murdered 35 people, in a massacure (see Joe Vialls article on this subject: MARTIN BRYANT - THE OTHER STORY LINK: http://vialls.net/portarthur/portarthurpart1.html), plus ARTICLE: Danger: Mind Controlers At Work! George Bush, Sr. has been on SSRI's (PROZAC) for many years, plus heroin (aka "Poppy George") and cocaine. George W. Bush, Jr. is currently on SSRI's (PROZAC), alcohol and cocaine (as verified by Gary Aldrich - an FBI agent inside of the White House). ARTICLE: Secret Service, U.S. Intel say Bush uses cocaine, Prozac, alcohol LINK: www.tomflocco.com/fs/SecretServIntelSay.htm. The Bushies own ELI LILLY Pharmaceuticals! They can get all of the SSRI's they need! Look how they are? SSRI's supposedly weaken the LSD experience. Not a good mix! Live and learn. Peace, love and understanding . . .
i think the point is still that taking LSD while on paxil and adderall would probably be a less than favourable option.
