Why not? It would make the Crusade more official that way

That's crazy talk, we only want good Christian soldiers in our army. Remember, there are no atheists in foxholes, and obviously everyone else's God is false and doesn't exist.

Hahahah! My thoughts to a T.

To answer the question, "why is there an army?" ...

We must first answer the question, "why is there religion?"

I have a feeling that the answers are very closely related.

we should create armies by religion, not by country, then let them fight it out & once & for all solve the age old question, whos god is the meanest toughest bully on the block

Jesus was TOTALLY AGAINST VIOLENCE IS ANY FORM.

Such a question if it was seriously pruposed is a slap in his face, and he would turn the other cheek and ask for another.

But I wouldn't be suprised if Christains started making this point actually, but thank god our goverment would never go for it.

Your point is well made Molly.

I don't remember where I read this, or heard it, but I remember a story about a few American soldiers who were captured in Japan. One of the Japanese soldiers spoke english, and on seeing one of the Americans praying, he asked him if he was a Christian. The American said he was, and the Japanese said that he used to be, but he gave up his belief years ago. The American asked him why he no longer believed, and the Japanese, looking a bit confused, said "how can I be a warrior and a Christian at the same time?"

    because the mission of Jesus

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to bring peace but a sword." - Matthew 10:34

wouldn't the armed forces as a unified body of christians be able to fight and battle evil better?

oh yes..every all powerful god capable of creating & destroying univereses needs its army of puny humans with puny guns to run around killing eachother in the name of fighting evil

did not god create evil? if god suposzedly can create & destroy all things isnt he fighting his own battle against his own creations? face it, we are just a vidio game to god..a mindless entertainment..he doesnt give a shit if good or evil wins as long as is fun to watch

The same Jesus who instructed his disciples to buy swords?

Mr. "I come not to bring peace but a sword"?

Mr "Unless you hate your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, yea your own life also, you cannot be my disciple?"

Molly the Hippy is a character, not a person. It is an identity..imitating a fundamentalist Christian. Don't take her so seriously.

We talked about this several months ago. She's prolly gonna attack me, ..here goes...

They needed your voice of reason before the crusades....if you didn't end up being tortured to death for being a heretic, that is...

It always hurts me to break this to people but I was in my share of foxholes and remained an atheist throughout the experience. I did however reach new levels of obscenity while under mortar fire.

Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war...
With the cross of Jesus, going on before.

All hail King George. Praise God and kill the (fill in the blank).

It doesn't matter that Jesus was a man who preached peace and tolerance.

It matters that his name is being used to kill people and Christians are buying the line, sight unseen, in droves.

See all you non-believers on the gallows...

Right, if that's a response to my post, I was being sarcastic. I probably didn't make it obvious enough.

Jesus said those that live by the sword die by the sword.... turn the other cheek.... sure he had some fun with the money changers, but I wouldn't take that little incident too serious. He was totally faking it.

And he said you should love him more then your family, in the sense you should not hate your family, but love the oneness that is all things, including your family... not the duality of family being above the rest of humanity... His point was that we are all a big family.
