Do you think the USA will fall from it's super power status in your life time?

I do, I can see it happening. It's weird to think about, like evryone else, I grew knowing that America is the richest and most powerful country in the world, but the fact is, no empire in human history has ever lasted, every single one falls.

The next super power looks to be China, India is also one to watch out for. The quesiton is however, do you think this shift will happen in your life time, or will America be able to hang on for another 50 (assuming an average of ages here) years? I hope so, because if America goes down, so does Australia, and this may sound racist, but I really don't like the idea of a country like China ruling the world.

I believe that there will be a civil revolution in china soon, like we had in europe during the industrial revolution.

In any way, i believe that our world will have big changes soon, we are living to unbalanced, we take but do not give. Overpopulation, over-exploitation of nature, financial problems, increased prices, it's everywhere.
Rich countries getting richer, poor countries getting poorer because of our over-consumption and high demands. There will need to be a new living standard or we will crash.

I kind of hope it does happen in my lifetime. I'm sick of the US government. And not just because I'm an anarchist.

Unfortunately, I'm seeing more of a descent into 1984 than a fall. Though, I suppose, 1984 would be a fall.

I agree China will be the next super power

It’s already massing its forces in the form of sheer numbers, behind its borders ready to strike at a moments notice to the furthest reaches of our planet, in the ongoing struggle for our increasingly diminishing natural resources [IMG]

    that is so true

the us has the largest military by far, so it may be pretty far down the road that it completely loses its status

no the U.S. will not die, we're in a new era now, look at Myanmar, they didn't want to let anyone in but the WHOLE WORLD protested and now everyone is helping eachother. Nowadays regime changes get the whole worlds attention. Maybe you don't follow my thinking, and I know african nations are chaotic, but the U.S. is a rock, no matter how fucked up things get.

well the staunchest capitolist i know, points out that every nation that ever tried to print its way out of debt, with unsupported paper currency, spiralled down to complete colapse sooner or later from doing so.

several times in the past its colapse has been predicted and didn't happen. so i'm not making any bets on when, but nations, like men, ARE mortal. or perhapse i should say governments.

because something hasn't happened any of the times it might have been expected to, is no reason to assume it won't or can't, precisely, or not so precisely, but somewhere around there, when it's NOT expected to.

remember hitler had an invincable army. the most powerful in all of human history. but the combination of productive capacity and resources defeated it. today america's productive capacity has been shipped off shore, and almost no one, any more, honestly wants, it's paper.

what might, and hopefully WILL happen when it does, is there won't be ANY nation capable of become the kind of super power that can bully every other nation on the planet.

so much of what could be, would be, should be, is repressed by america's and the international corporatocracy's economically vested bullying, that everyone will breath a great sigh of relief when it finally comes. even people living here, in what is now the u.s., for the most part will.

nor will the resault of such a collapse likely be the kind of power vacume so many fear, or make propiganda hey out convincing others to do so.

as pointed out else where, the u.n., the world court, and the universal house of justice will come into their own. yes the positions of india and china will be strengthened. but it will be a VERY different world in so many other ways, already, before this happened, as is happing now, behind the scenes, out of the limelight.

and in what is now the u.s., groups of states in various regeons will band togather to form 'baby' u.s.'s. you can just about bank on that one. but not on the currency, or even all of them adopting the concept of it even.

hard as it may be to imagine such a world, peering out at it throught the narrow tent slit of today, yet bigger chainges HAVE happend historically, if one opens one's eyes broader then just the past very few hundred years.

so there's absolutely no reason, either that it can't happen, nor to dread the worst, if and when it does.

Our current war in Iraq relies on the availabiltiy of oil...and it's price. Think about it, if foreign oil wer shut off and the US had no access to it's supply then we WILL fall. Unfortunately that the gist of it folks. The longer we remain in Iraq and the Niddle East and the longer we stay out of dealings of the future of the world (ie. China, Russia) getting all of the leftover oil reserves, then the shorter our country's lifespan will be. I think we'll see a revolution here in the US before we see one in China or Russia because of the current state of affairs regarding US oil independence policy. we simply cannot survive as a nation with prices rising daily as they are.

Be prepared folks because it's gonna get ugly!

Sorry in the last post I meant to say the US will fail in Iraq and the middle east if oil prices don't come to a fair balance soon. I think we are sitting on a time bomb waiting to explode. Our Superpower will fail because of the corporate greed and insensitivity to the middle class not to mention the poor political processes from the Reagan era forward.

BTW, corporate greed encompasses the oil companies, the government and lobbyists, energy, etc...

Chew on that for a thought...

the ugly comes and goes. not all or even most of us may survive it of course. that's the very definician of such things. but the world of those who come after that, is one devoutly to be looked forward to.

it may not get that dark. but then of course to just assume that it can't, well yes, that would be whistling in the dark totally. but also, i think there's some kind of insane fixation these days with gloom and doom.

america HAS been rolling up a huge kharmic debt indeed, and such things do tend to get called in. eventually. when, and in ways, LEAST expected.

called in, not by stray dissident groups, whatever one may think of the legitimacy of their axes to grind, but by the universe itself and how reality works.

i think it could very well happen in my lifetime. I'm only almost 20. Everything is going to hell, and people are staring to wake up and rebel. Its only a matter of time... and I really hope it happens.

I see so many factors for Americas down fall at the moment, one factor you have to look at is the strength of their currency when the so called world powers currency is almost worth the same as say a country like Australia's things cant be looking too good. If their economy continues to fall in value thats one sure sign that they are loosing out in the battle for power. Honestly i think things are already in full swing for a change in the power equilibrium, country's like China & India have advantages in population.
Personally i cant imagine a country like China with its current political views to be able to take over as the world super power without a big war & forcing their political view on to other country's. The next decade will be an interesting one in world politics and even with all the problems America has had in recent times i still think they are a safer option than most of the country's that could take over world politics.

i think america's collapse will be determined on the election.

i dont know much, but my understanding is
obama; seems to promise change... which may hold off the collapse for a bit longer.
clinton; same family, same problems, spiralling collapse of america imminent.

i honestly believe americans and the whole world alike are going to see bleak times ahead and only getting worse for the next years, until we unite to fight against destroying the planet. and none of this half hearted bullshit. i think its 100% probable that we will expeirience a severe depression in our lifetimes (within the next 20 years)
with the depletion of oil, our whole way of living is going to have to change.

we all need to unite, to try and fix the shit we did. save the planet and stop crapping around with all the shit

A couple things to keep in mind, #1: The U.S. Government pays itself nothing in taxes for the oil it consumes so they aren't feeling as much of a pinch as the rest of us #2: IIR (And I could be off a bit, but I believe thats a rather conservative estimate.) but as it stands now we supply ourselves with over 65% of the oil used nationwide from the gulf, Texas, etc.
If and when SHTF, all the Government has to do to ensure it's needed percentage of supply is to slap an emergency tax on it or simply start rationing our supply as we did in WW2, thereby fiscaly forcing down Public demand for the stuff and ensuring they had ample portions of our own supply.

everything that can never chainge, will. though maybe not all at once, and almost certainly not when the most people are expecting it to, but when the fewest are.

it just won't be brought about by any act of hostile intention, but by greed's own short sightedness, with perhapse a few other factors helping it along.

forget oil. not forgetting it will make it happen all the quicker. yah, the more fiercely we cling to what we're familiar with making a buck off of, well i have to hedge, because maybe nothing is inevitable within some particular time frame, but it IS precisely trying to prevent things from chainging that it is their nature to, i mean trying to blindly because we're so attatched to what we're familiar with, well more often then not, doing that contributes directly to the conditions, situations, that FORCE those very things TO chainge. people lie to themselves all the time not wanting to believe that, but the real universe just keeps rolling along not giving a dam what lies anyone tells themselves or whatever emotional difficulties motivate them to do so.

Well thats just it really, those who pull the strings know full well that by keeping individuals dependant on the technologies they promote, they ensure themselves a great leverage point with which to controll the masses. ;)

However there are handfull's of DIY'ers who've built their own alternative energy solutions into their vehicles. More and more running their own mini Bio-diesil plants, Electrical as well but in much smaller numbers, the required batteries eat alot of cargo space. Steam as means to generate mechanical energy for the cars generator has my interest.

May as well see what else they have info on while you're in there. ;)

Our only feature which maintains us as a "Superpower" is our military. In almost all other aspects, we are a "third world nation".
