Do you think this would happen if pot suddenly became legal?

I figure that if pot suddenly became legal a lot of decent hard working folk would loose a source of income and would have to go back to eating Spam. A lot of people would have to buy their pot from the Government and it would be shitty weed.

A lot of people would start trying to grow their on pot and a lot of these people wouldn’t know a male plant from a female plant so there would be so much pollen floating around you could never keep a strain pure. And the worse thing would be that if pot was legal and you could grow them in your garden there would still be people out there ripping them off. Cheers!

I don't think many people would grow their own. Not too many people grow their own tobacco, or still moonshine...

It's legal in quite a few countries, nothing bad going on in them - just pure weed, no ripping off and happy people.

Care to tell what countries these are?

Anyway, I doubt everyone would grow their own. They'd probably figure it's to hard.

a decent number of people distill their own spirits, though huge stills hidden in the mountains may be more rare these days. homemade wine and homebrew are VERY common, though. in fact, i am a homebrewer and love it a lot. people also grow their own pot and mushrooms right now - not because they have to, but because they can, and they enjoy the higher quality and the financial savings.

people CAN grow their own tobacco, but conditions aren't right for most people and there isnt a lot of information about how to do it out there. apart from that, there is a different and much more thorough curing process that MUST take place for tobacco to be smokable.

the government wouldnt be growing, selling, or distributing weed. just regulating and taxing it. its almost a sure thing that homegrown pot would be allowed, and even if it werent with cannabis being legal the consequences of a bust would be greatly less.

yes, blackmarket entrepreneurs MAY have their jobs ruined by a different marketplace, but many others would step up as responsible, respectable, and legal vendors of cannabis and cannabis related items. many more people would find new jobs that previously were uninterested in cannabis as a source of income. it would actually be very good for the economy and would reduce crime by getting cannabis sales away from dangerous and unscrupulous dealers who also sell harder, more addictive and dangerous drugs such as heroin and cocaine.

there wouldnt really be any major negative results from legalizing cannabis.

and not everyone would grow there own and not all commercial pot would be low quality. of course the majority of people WOULDNT grow and the majority WOULD buy lousy weed most likely. but the american way is to do whats easy (its easier to buy taxed pot in a manner of minutes than grow your own at low cost in a manner of months)

and most people will settle with whats cheap, not whats good. this is also typical of american behavior...look at beer and wine. the marketplace has TONS of great beers and wines available, but most people are drinking things like budweiser, miller, and franzia. but the good stuff is available, and there is actually a BIGGER variety of good stuff available than the lousy stuff. its there because there are demands for it from more sophisticated consumers, and there are people out there passionate about creating artisinal beers and wines. its available, yes it costs more and there are fewer places to buy it, but its there.

same with really good tobacco. you can get phillies and black and milds at any gas station for less than a buck each, but its terrible tobacco. good cigars are harder to find, and a lot more expensive...but they're there, because people (like myself) who love tobacco REALLY love good tobacco, and theres a demand for it and certain people are out there who are passionate about making the best product they are able to.

the same would hold true for pot.

Exactly, I think only the few people who really enjoy the high grade weed would actually buy the better kind or grow their own.

(btw, I LOVE expensive cigars, cheap ones taste like shit to me)

I am someone that doesn't want pot legal because of that happening, I would want it to be widely allowed for medical use only, and have it decrimalized, But thats just me.

so you have a still? untill its distilled its just fermented slop. unless you're making quality beer, wine, mead, etc. but thats not moonshine at all......

i personally dont like the idea of moonshine and wouldnt purchase it even if it were available. if i wanted extremely high proof grain alcohol i'd get everclear, which is nearly identical to any good quality moonshine (ethanol is ethanol, and 190 proof is more than pure enough) but being made in regulated and authorized distilleries will ensure no unwanted contaminants, such as methanol (wood alcohol, what is sometimes used to cut moonshine but can cause issues such as blindness and death....)

of course home distilled moonshine would be safe enough if you know what you're doing, but i'd still rather have some good quality bourbon, vodka, RUM, tequila, or gin to pure alcohol. i like the taste of good liquor, and i dont mind having it 50% ABV or less :p

for a license to grow and sell?

personally, if it were legalized, thats what i would pursue as a living. as it is im interested in learning to grow strictly for personal use, but until its legal i dont want it to be my livelihood - far too risky to do that.

if, on the other hand, it were legalized or at least "legal enough" i would definitely consider making the big investments necessary to make a small business out of growing hig quality cannabis. i have great respect for those individuals already growing cannabis for a living in semi-legal situations in areas of the us (licensed growers for the medical marijuana community who still have to keep things under wraps)

they are the pioneers and will forge the way for the rest of us who want to grow legitimately. they are currently legal only as far as their state is concerned; they can openly state they grow cannabis for a living, but if too much information gets out then the feds can get them....

semi-legal means only semi-open...but at least we have people out there working to get cannabis more widely accepted for all of its wonderful qualities. i am anxiously awaiting the day when not only can medical users and "recreational" users grow their own, you can legitimately set up a farm, and the day when some strains are specifically bred for NOTHING but aesthetics and are grown in grannies garden as an ornamental (there are in fact many exotic tobaccos grown as strictly ornamental plants! i think marijuana is pretty, personally, and dont think it would be tough for experienced breeder to breed ornamental cannabis, though it may take some time to do this)

Damn right. It stinks like hell too >.<

--And I hope that wasn't a type of bashing, because I know how to distill alcohol, this will be my third time distilling. You probably weren't bashing me, but as I read that it seemed like you didn't believe me and were trying to put me down, but whatever.

No xD But once it's done I will post some pictures in the Potent Portables section :) Especially the barrel after I empty it, bleh, it will be so gross.

you obviously have never had moonshine. or if you have it wasnt quality.. there is a huge taste difference between shine and everclear. everclear is grain alcohol not corn liquor. around here you can get peach and apple shine as well..

an yes its 190 proof or better as well..

Thats because from tobaco plant to cig its alot of work, and who wants to roll so many cigs? Weed doesn't need any work after its been grown. Dry and smoke. Understand why?
