and what are your thoughts on them? I use one. Should I not? I also use a mei tai baby carrier. For awhile I used the stroller more often because I had pretty bad epidural-induced back pain. Now the pain has gotten a lot better, but it's not all gone. I still use the stroller, with my mei tai in the little basket underneath so I can use it whenever.
strollers are cool. I wanted something reasonable for winter, however the closest thing they had for my now 3 months old daughter was a convertible from walmart... has reversible handle, converts into carriage as well, and comes as a combo with the car seat. I love to use it, it is quite heavy at times to carry up and down stairs, but its worth it. Baby gets out on the fresh air a lot, and I still use it inside as some sort of a basinet.. can roll it into any room in case of trouble I suppose the only problems I have is lack of padding for the winter (+the roof...) and that it can be hard to get around in the traffic
I usually carry/carried my babies in a sling. Sometimes we'll rent a stroller if we are out and about somewhere I don't want to carry the diaper bag the whole time, but usually the kids prefer(ed) to walk or be in the sling instead anyway. I gave away the two strollers I had when first kid was little because I never used them much anyway.
I use a stroller when I'm going to be doing a lot of walking like the zoo or if I'm going to have to be carrying a lot of things like when I go shopping or something. Lily likes to walk most of the time, but when she doesn't it's nice to not have to carry her, she weighs almost 40 lbs!
the wonderful thing about using a sling is that as baby gradually grows bigger, you get stronger and don't really notice how heavy they are. Honestly, my first child was harder for me to carry around when she was only 6lbs than my second child is now at age three. The sling makes it much easier on my back.
I use a double stroller everyday. I take 3 walks a day... 2 with the kids and one when the kids are in bed to think and relax(obviously don't use a stroller for that!) The first walk Croix likes to walk and sometimes Noah. Theres a playground by us and sometimes we go there. The middle one is usually while the boys are napping and I carry Riley sometimes depending on how my knees are feeling(I have bad knees). Sometimes we wait until Chris comes home and all go out. The guys usually race and I carry Riley because Chris and I can switch off. Our walks are long though. Mile (sometimes more) walk with the kiddies. They love it. Do you guys walk daily? BTW does anyones kids hate the sling? I can't keep Riley in one if my life depended on it. She likes to move by herself. She usually has the sling all loose and pulling out of it after a half hour. I don't know, maybe I just need new ways to tie it.
yeah me and Abryn go walking a lot, sometimes all day, like yesterday. I had her in the mei tai half the time and the stroller the rest. I guess I'm just starting to wonder if maybe I shouldn't be using the stroller at all. like maybe it would be better for her if I carried her in a sling mostly. she's only just turned 5 months old.
I STILL use a stroller with my youngest. She's 6 1/2. I was given a fancy schmancy stroller when my son was born, but it was SO big & heavy that we only used it a handful of times. Instead we used a backpack (didn't know about slings yet) with him until I became pregnant with my daughter & he still wanted to be carried, and then picked up a heavy-duty umbrella stroller. My daughter LOVED the sling, and we used it until I literally couldn't with my joints anymore, then brought the stroller out again for her. We have a lot of genetic joint problems, and my lil girl just aches some days. And while I would love to say that we do, unfortunately we don't always have time to stop & take a rest when her little joints need a break. (it can take 1/2 hour some days... and she still may not feel better) So the stroller definitely comes in handy for us. love, mom
i rarely use a stroller i usually just let aiden hold my hand and walk with us. but if i know we are goin to have a long day of activities i usually bring the stroller. i use an umbrella stroller not a big bulky one. we have a big bulky one and only used it when he was a baby baby
We've used our huge travel-system stroller once, during a street fair. It held our bags. And it was bulky, in the way, inconvenient. We carry Moire. She likes her Ultimate baby wrap, because her arms AND legs can swing free, and she's facing forward. She only tolerates the sling when she's tired and wants to sleep, because then she can curl into a little ball. (hope that helps, Eryn....Because Moire's the same way about our sling) When she gets older, we might use an umbrella stroller, but we'll see. Right now, I hate them. And everytime I see a tiny baby in a stroller, I want to cry.
Its funny how different we all are. I use my "huge travel system stroller" all the time. Almost everyday. I use it when we go get groceries, I use it when I walk to my parents house, I use it to go to the library. We used it the other day when we went to the city. Basically, I use it whenever I need to have both hands free or when I am walking a far distance. It folds up by itself with the twist of a knob. Granted, I live in a small town and we walk almost every...and I've already bought a a sled for winter!
Leane's belly is so big that she doesn't properly fit in our carrier anymore.....she actually makes the side straps come undone. As for slings...I made one and we used it a little, but she hated it more than anything. Now, it's mainly the stroller. She just loves it cuz she's free to look around, play with toys, grab her bottle when she wants it, or feels like having a snooze.
I'm still in the *She's so new and cute and I don't want to put her down* stage. But, I do have a stroller just in case we decide to go somewhere that we'll be walking a lot. Sunday we're going to Lexington to pick up my gramma from the bus station....we'll probably walk the mall, but I won't put her in the stroller just yet....she isn't too heavy and I imagine my gramma and mom will carry her a bit as well. I don't have a problem with strollers....just for future reference.
I used to take one of the kids I took care of for a walk everyday in a stroller. He was between 6 and 9 months. I felt it was a bit impersonal... it was a huge bulky one, that's all they had, and when mom and grandma took him, it was this way as well... but he was heavy and I couldn't carry him, but he was very irritable in the stroller and like I said I had to do a lot to get to him, I had a dog in hand, and it was a bulky stroller, I really just felt like the whole time he wanted more attention too... I don't know.
Moon, if you keep carrying her, you'll get stronger as she gets older, and she'll always feel light. Trust me. Moire is already a hefty 16.5 lbs, and she feels so light to me because she's in a carrier as much as she'll let me.
My daughter is 25lbs at 7 months old and I carry her everywhere. We don't even own a stroller. We bought one of those huge travel systems before she was born and we sold it when she was 4 months or so. She outgrew the carseat! I've gone through a ton of carriers trying the perfect ones. Right now I have a homemade ring sling, a Babyhawk mei tai and a Merry Carry wrap. They all have their uses-ring sling for quick ups/downs, mei tai or wrap for long periods of time.
My son loves the stroller and has since he was about 1 year old. I used the bulky travel system stroller at first, but then bought a high quality umbrella stroller since we were traveling a lot and in and out of taxis. Turned out to be a great investment because my son is 3-1/2 and still asks to be pushed in it when we are out shopping, plus we go for walks with friends twice a week. My baby will be here in two weeks and I plan on slinging her and letting her brother continue to use the stroller for a while. When she gets bigger I have a travel system stroller for her to use and I will probably buy a new umbrella for her since ours has been great but is VERY worn now.
