I agree that aid to Africa should be properly targeted, meaning aid to Africa needs to go directly to the people it's aimed at rather than going through a corrupt gov't for distribution. Also it needs to be acknowledged what type of aid has been counter-productive. Africa is a rich continent in natural resources that should be able to support itself but this may only happen when it's leaders make economic reforms that spur real economic development. So any aid that removes the incentive of African leaders to reform their economies must be acknowleged, changed or stopped all together.
I agree. All of the aid organizations are ridiculously corrupt. I don't remember the statistics (I'm sure that one of you can help me out), but aid organizations keep a huge amount of the money donated to them. Red Cross administrators and such make way too much money. At the same time, Africa does seem to need some of this aid. This is a tricky situation. It's nice to help, but at the same time practically none of that money goes to the people who need it. I just think that the Western world needs to stay out of African affairs and let them settle it themselves.
Sure, we give Africa LOTS of aid. We loan them VAST sums of money through the IMF and World Bank, which we know they will never be able to pay back. This money deliberately ends up in the hands of the corrupt leaders of these countries. When the loans cannot be paid back -- and they never are -- the IMF and World Bank, via the UN, simply goes in and takes control of the land then funds militant groups to kill off the local population. These people are such humanitarians, aren't they? We are also working hard with the United Nations to sterilize the men and women over there by giving them vaccines which the public is told are to help the people and stop the spread of disease. That's why they were given AIDS by the loving World Health Organization in the mid-late '70s through their wholesome vaccination program. Today, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is so generous to help these poor people. Who cares if Bill Gates' father was a staunch supporter of eugenics and population control, who sat on the board of Planned Parenthood. Bill Gates is such a nice guy and would never want to harm the poor African people he donates so much of his money to help. No, things are always exactly as they appear. Just go back to sleep because everything is normal and as it should be. The government loves you and the third world population. They talk opely about killing us, but who cares? It's just a stupid conspiracy theory, right? I mean, it's all just mere coincidence. Yes, the global elite LOVE the people of Africa so much, which is why they're working so hard to exterminate them. They only want what's best for these suffering, impoverished African people. Who cares if there are UN documents that openly state that Africa is at the forefront of a massive population control agenda, which it has been for the past several decades?
But have you ever considered that this is deliberate? Of course you haven't. These YouTube clips are giving you the phony, controlled debate, without touching upon the reality of "aid" sent to Africa. It has nothing to do with helping the African people and everything with controlling the land and its resources, while exterminating the African people. This is well-known to people who have a somewhat decent grasp on world events and don't simply swallow what's given to them by the corporate media.
Pressed Rat is absolutely right. Don't be fooled into thinking that any of these people are doing anything to reverse the shit-hole condition that these people are in. It seems obvious that they are deliberately keeping Africa the way that it is. At one point, America once had enough money to be used to reshape Africa, entirely, yet we used it all on a useless war - Good excuse to not have money, am I right? Why doesn't anything change? Is it simply because this is a lot more complex than Pressed Rat and I make it seem, and just use conspiracy theories to shrug off reality, or is it because some of these things are done deliberately?
Then this could be related to George Ayittey's point of Africa not needing aid but to instead have it's leaders reform their economies so that they won't need to depend on aid and loans from the IMF in the first place.
An example of an African country who's leaders chosed to properly manage it's economy. This is what needs to happen if other African countries are to get turned around economiclly. " Any developing country could have adopted Botswana's sensible policies. But in Africa, most newly independent nations pursued the fashion of the day--socialist or nationalist agendas that called for a strongman at the head of a one-party state, state-owned industries, barriers to foreign investment and trade, and, inevitably, lots of debt. But Botswana was so poor there was nothing to nationalize and no foreign investment to block. And not having any money meant keeping strict controls on government spending. When diamonds were discovered, a culture of prudent management was already in place, so the money didn't end up in Swiss bank accounts. "The Botswana people frown on profligate spending," says Alfred Dube, the nation's permanent representative to the U.N... " LINK
All of those debates are interesting, but are very distracting. Honestly, it really isn't so hard. If we wanted to turn African nations into first world countries, we would have done so pretty swiftly, but we didn't, and we didn't because we don't really care - simple as that. People are just making it seem like they are trying to help Africa. It's all just a big ruse. Where are the big activists? Oprah doesn't care, these people don't care. She is fucking loaded, talks about doing nice things, talks about helping Africa, but what does she do with her half billion dollars? She gives everyone in her audience an SUV and suddenly she is a hero. These people don't care, honestly.
This turn around for Africa would have to come from it's leader's reforms. Africa was going to have a hard time developing simply because too many of it's post-colonial leaders chosed a communist route or different forms of state-socialism after independence. These systems have already shown themselves to be bad for economic growth and especially for poorer developing nations. For Africa to get turned around it would more than likely require more market reforms such as less state-run enterprises and more properly implemented business privatization(Estonia's example). Oprah has built a school for girls in South Africa that opened a few months back.
Agreed. Also The corrupt African government needs to stop their militant eminent domain pratices of expropriating property from their own villagers and in exchange giving them nothing but homelessness and putting them out of business without accomodations. Economically going green will render Africa's main sources of energy coal and oil which they profit from astronomically utterly usless, And the cause and effect of such an action would then render developement affecting the nation of Africa disastrously.
Aid and debt forgiveness is rarely anything beyond the fig-leaf level; the numbers sound big only in absolute terms, relative to wider economics and the scope of the problems involved - or relative to continued economic injustice - they aren't much. It's fine to say that there is massive waste and hundreds of self-inflicted wounds in Africa - but saying it out of context is pretty misleading. I think space aliens turning earthlings into chattle for a few centuries and then hooking us up to the 'resource assraping' section of the intergalactic economy is probably about the only way some smug folks'd just up about moral fibre and bootstraps.
Are you seriously implying that aids is man made and distributed through the WHO? what is your basis for this claim... all of the 'evidence' that i have seen for this claim might as well also claim that JFK was assassinated by a wookie.
Yes, I am implying exactly that. Read the book Emerging Viruses: AIDS and Ebola: Nature, Accident or Intentional by Dr. Len Horowitz. Far from being a conspiracy kook, Horowitz is a graduate of the University of Rochester and Harvard, and backs up every claim in his book with documented proof.
Why would it be so hard to believe that it's man made, as if human nature isn't capable of such a thing.
I'am kinda optimistic for Africa because of the Cold War being over. It seems that the Cold War years played a part in stagnating Africa because both the eastern and western powers played a role in keeping leaders in power who were bad for their countries just because they claimed to either be pro-Marxism(Mengistu Haile Mariam of Ethiopia) or Capitalism(Mobutu).
