I bought a new record player and I have been playing records collected for at least 35 yrs and I was wondering if anyone else still plays the vinyl .For me , I get nostalgic listening to them .I remember when I was just a kid spinning records . The new record players haven't got any hissing or popping so the sound quality is pretty good .Anyhow ,I was just wondering if I was the only one .

    Peace and joy

I know ! Records are cheap now .I went to a yard sale last weekend and found some awesome records for a quarter. ! I bought a bunch of them .There was some Nitty Gritty Dirt Band , Johnny Cash ,Janis Joplin on and on . I like records better than cd's .If you get one scratch on a cd it's ruined .I have records that are scratched and they still play .I guess I'm a vintage kind of person .I love old stuff . I have about 600 records and I am still collecting . It is a way of preservation of history for me .Just call me the record lady .LOL!

    Peace and joy

Yes. I have a pretty good collection. I have a lot of different kinds of music too, it took some looking but I managed to get just about every album that I couldn't live without. My favorite to collect right now are bluegrass and fiddlin' albums. What about you guys? What are some of your favoritees? What are you still looking for?

You can't beat the original sound you get from a record player.

Avid LP collector. Since the inception of the CD my vinyl collection has blossomed to close to 1500.

I have/had a fair collection of vinyl, some then lost, damaged and/or 'permanently borrowed' - when I played some recently; though I tried to keep them in good order, they have not all stood the test of time :(
    ah well

My 22nd birthday was Nov 4th and I asked for a record player so my dad got me this cool record player that plays records, cds, radio, cassettes, and my ipod/comp b/c it can connect to where the headphones go. I can apparently burn my records onto CDs with this thing but I havn't tried yet.

Anyways they let me have some of their records so I took an early Beatles record, 6 Bob Dylan records, Cat Stevens, Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack, Meat Loaf, Ella Fitzgerald sings the Gershwins, 6 Billie Holliday records and some more.

For my bday my friend got me a Mamas and the Papas record in addition to The Hollies record which the store gave her for free b/c it was warped but it still plays and never skips.

I got a Cream record and another Beatles record last week

Moral of the story: records are awesome!

    So smoooth.

No Country music for me tho. Don't know why such a general question was put in the Country/Bluegrass section.

i have a solid collection but my player from when i was a kid is long done. so i bought one of those players that converts records to digital but you have to record at a certain speed then transfer the speed when it gets converted. i can never get the speed to make it sound right. i think i should try again this weekend. (my weekend starts monday)
to the person that asked what kind i collect. all of them but mostly indie grrrl punk rock.

Luckily I'm old enough to have a few hundred records and a decent player from before digital.
Was recently given an even better one so I just upgraded both cartridges, separate phono preamp etc etc.
Maaan..... Never heard such quality come out of the records. They actually often do sound better than CD. I always just thought that was rubbish talk.

pensfan13 I listened to Punk in my angry days, mostly UK. For "indie grrrl punk rock." have you listened to the early 1980s UK band Crass album, Penis Envy. Anarcho- Feminist. Prime stuff there. Also maybe the UK band Poison Girls from that era and local.

no trouble at all if you know what will fit on your turntable. you can check needledoctor.com for available cartridges and needles.
