the i dread thread got me thinking...i noticed some people here like reggae. any dancehall lovers here? i am in love with dancehall culture.
I'm 95% roots, but I can deal with some dancehall in da club. Depends on who it is... Sean Paul is good, Damien Marley sucks. Trying to be all hard, knowing full well he grew up filthy rich...
YELLOWMAN and sugar minott and eekamouse hells yes wa do dem a wa do dem dem dem and sean paul sucks i hate sean paul's music
I guess I consider Eek a mouse roots for some reason... And Sean Paul has some good sh it... If you can get past the radio tunes...
i dunno man i listen to so much it all sounds like reggae to me. i gues you could say ive got ska, roots, mento, dub, african reggae, etc...all kinds in my library i especially like toasters though. i think toasting belongs in the dancehall category
yes, toasting (when a dj talks and makes odd noises lol) is reserved for dancehall. i'd say eek a mouse is roots, but that's just me. gentleman is awesome, and isn't he a white european? sean paul, eh. he's aight. it just makes me mad that all of his songs get radio play while artist making better use of the same "riddim" get no play at all!
^thats why i dont like sean paul. its pop music. and yea gentleman is german i believe you're right eekamouse isn't dancehall, though one or two of his songs come close to the genre. mostly roots though i would say. i got this book a few years ago called 'rough guide to reggae'. its got great info in it. not dancehall, but ive been listening to some john holt this morning. time is the master. ace stuff.
Funny thing is, alot of his 'riddims' are Indian (dot not feather) at their roots... Yeah, I can dig that. It's hard to classify what's dancehall and what's just kickass reggae that makes you wanna move your ass... Mighty Mighty Bosstones is great for ska, Bad Brains for hardcore, but I consider dancehall mostly like gangsta sh it with a reggae sample in the background. Not really my scene...
dancehall is about riddims. it's about who can make the best track with a riddim. soemtimes dancehall artists use riddims from "lovers rock" too.
The music is hardly the focus of that vid! Honestly, they could be doing that to any type of music and I'd still find it kinda trashy. Suggestive yes, sexy, no. Plus, if they tried that during an intimate moment, they might break stuff off.
actually that probably wasnt the best video to post i meant something more like this, where there is a choreographed dance that goes with a song, or a dj will toast asking participants to do a certain dance move. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gr_bIZzAUfc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTYKHLvWvnk
Hey Vag, you posted this thread then seconded a comment in the other thread about non-dready banter popping up... nice one lol
great fucking obeservation hypocricy ftw that was a while back when i was a newb and didn't realize that i don't give a fuck
lol it's not really hypocricy since I didn't make claims about what should/shouldn't be posted etc. What was a while back? I'm sure both posts I was referring to were today's but maybe I missed something. Or maybe this wasn't even directed at me? haha whatever
