try Deadwing for the new one, for one sonding most like absentia, from what i understand porcupine tree made a big change in sound since absentia, thats cuz they just then found out about opeth, and i beieve worked with opeth since absentia... and the older albums tho seem more mellow and moody and goth i guess, almost sounds like a diff band to me... not too familiar with them older ones tho... i can suggest tho to check out anathema - a fine day to exit

Just downloaded about 12 Porcupine Tree songs. Sounds like some good stuff.

Porcupine Tree is some very good stuff.Reminds me of a cross between YES,Focuslight, early Pink Floyd,a dash of Genesis,Rush, and occasionaly Tangerine Dream, and a drop of Brian Eno.

Though lately I've seen them associated with the likes of Coldplay and Tool...

But overall, they're a very decent band, and I'd like to get into them one of these days.

I had a friend tell me about this band, she lives in the UK...One day she was telling about them and sent me the song "Blackfield" by them. I thought it was a great song. I downloaded a few more. And once I get some more blank CDs, I'll download their "Blackfield" album and burn it

evn tho id say they hit their peak with absentia, and could be that deadwing is even better... id say with absentia they found out a new sound, but since maybe sign they started to really start climbing the top of the new prog rock scene, which i now think they rule, cuz spocks beard burnt out, obviously, if you know anything about them, and dream theater is trying to be all badass and too "heavy metal" for their own good lately... and neal morse and michael akerfeldt havent done anything new for YEARS and are just repeating their glory days from 5 years ago..... if anyone knows what im talking abouit, ah well..

Yeah, Porcupine Tree is awesome. I saw them a few weeks ago in Philly. I met the band and had a picture taken with Steven Wilson...haha. One lady nervously asked him for a hug and he goes "I may be British, but I still like hugs"...hahaha.
