I know i'll be swimming against the flow with this, it's a bit like saying how great beer is on a muslim website, but...
I have been heavy ganja smoker for 16yrs, and always thought it was quite benign harmless fun, even good for me. I treated ganja more like tea, just a friendly social ritual
In recent years i've suffered badly with the blues, taking time off ganja seems to greatly improve my mood, even tho'i really enjoy the act of smoking and the immediate effects.
I have smoked with a few people who've had mental health problems, and noticed that the ganja seems to make them madder (from my point of view)
It's strange tho' as in my circle it's ubiquitous, and it's odd not to have a toke, i love going out to reggae sound systems, and dope is part of the scene.
I guess it's just a habit now, and sometimes you have to break a habit in order to appreciate it. You gotta keep evaluating whether the things you do are actually making you feel good, am i just chasing a peak experience.
Perhaps i should lay off it and just use it as a sacrament occaisionally?
Maybe i should just drop it completely?
I don't expect this to be a popular thread with hippies, as we always want to talk about what's good and fun, but anyone have similar experiences?
Drop me a message if you take up this thread, to remind me.
    PEACE xxxx

Do what you want, not what your society prevokes. Cannabis isnt perfect. If you want to stop, then stop. Thats all that really matters in this case.

yeah, if you feel like you need to stop for a while, go ahead, it will be good for you. Not to mention toking after a long break makes it so much better.

I think you're right Bill, it's just a hard habit to break, as i associate it with fun and feeling good. As bootsy collins says:
"If you don't like the effects, don't produce the causes "
Guess one's gotta constantly review the effects ones behavior produces.

Yes i think it's one of those things you enjoy more the less you do it. I think i disrespected it just doing it to death.
Tis good to break habits, if only to appreciate them.

Smoking weed too often definitely causes depressions, that has been proven by several scientific studies! Only a couple of days of abstinence will get you into a much better mood and will increase your activity dramatically. From what you´ve said, I guess that you´ve become mentally addicted to THC.
I´ve been in that situation too. And quite often, I start to smoke weed too often again. It takes me a lot of discipline to stay away from that stuff then. If you can´t do it yourself, seek professional help!

Well, when I started smoking weed I liked it because it made everything funny, and made me feel like I was in a lucid dream. Now, I just smoke a lot cause I like the space it puts me in. Never brings me down though, never. In fact, when other shit brings me down like my first friend from high school stealing a bunch from me and forcing me to lose my nice apartment, the cops seized my car and loads of possessions, and I have chronic stomach issues lately, marijuana helps. After a shitty day, nothing is better than throwing on a sick Grateful Dead show, busting a jig, and puffing on a blunt.

Was almost the same with me...
And yes: after a 12-hours-working-day, when you´re finished with the world and everyone can kiss your backside, weed is great to bring relaxation to you and ground you a little!
I´m bringing in this year´s harvest this weekend. Should be more than a kilogram this season...

Sorry to tell you but drugs and anxiety go hand in hand. Maybe you do not have an anxiety problem at all. Try putting the weed down for 1 month and I gurantee you will have less anxiety. Doctors almost always misdiagnose things when you fail to inform them of any drugs you may be taking.

What you said is correct except the mentioning of "mentally addicted." The reason I say this is because there is no such thing as just a mental addiction. Everything in your brain is controlled by chemicals. Any sudden unbalance in the chemicals in your brain causes a "trigger' to want to smoke again. This chemical unbalance has nothing to do with "mental" and is a physical craving. So in theory the more "triggers" you get to want to smoke weed the more the chances of you being a drug addict.

O.K., this is a scientific way to see the human brain. But can you reduce a person to a number of molecules and their interactions? Where´s the soul then (if there is such thing as a soul)? Is it only the chemical reactions in your brain that made you write this? Or is there more?
If there´s only a little bit of a thing that one could call a "soul" then there´s also mental addiction!

Hiya Harshhooker and the flow, i'm not trying to swim against you personally. I really apreciate all the viewpionts you're sharing.
Harsh- you say everything in our brain is controlled by chemicals, i think you're 'putting the cart before the horse' so to speak'. Surely the chemicals in your brain are the messengers of your conciousness.
If you get attacked, you are concious of it, your brain (or adrenal gland) releases adrenalin, triggering the fight or flight responses.
Brain chemistry is a function of conciousness. Brain chemistry is the canvass our conciousness is painted on. I appreciate tho that each is dependent on the other.
I really appreciate all your comments.
