What I've wondered since the first time she made her case was:


Where the hell was she when her son was first deployed? Where was she when war was declared? Why is it that she only spoke up when somone close to her actually died? What about the thousand +/- who died before her son?

Anyway, she never had any credibility to me. And I don't think she is a good enough public speaker (Mike Tyson) to make a lasting impact. She won't be in the history books, I can tell you that.

Cindy Sheehan is not alone, there are numerous parents of soldiers killed and maimed in Iraq who are vocal about their disagreement with the policies of the present administration; who are vocal about the misuse of our military.

Pickle I disagree with how Sheehan decided to try to make a valid point, there are too many mixed issues and high tensions; and so someone in Sheehan's position must be cautious and very clear when speaking to the idea that heavy military presense equipped for urban warfare is not required in New Orleans but instead New Orleans needs other forms of support. You are mischaracterizing the nature and the context of Sheehan's statements through omission. Sheehan had just arrived back from New Orleans, following are portions of those statements:

Repeating the opening statement of this post: Cindy Sheehan is not alone, there are numerous parents of soldiers killed and maimed in Iraq who are vocal about their disagreement with the policies of the present administration, who are vocal about the misuse of our military.

Coming from a 'military family' you should know that war is not something we want to do, that true peace is the goal and that war is not a game or something to secrectly look forward to or enjoy. This war was generated by illegal means resulting great damage to our country and our standing in the world; the implications of this are only beginning to show.

You are misrepresenting the peace movement in this country. In my estimation I would say that the 'right-wing' are the folks who are often coming from a place of "win at any cost," making significant use of 'underhanded', ruthless and dishonest tatics; Tactics that undermine our very important system of orderly dissent and discourse, and threaten to, ultimately, do severe damage to our democracy.

I was at the L.A. march (092405) and I had a wonderful conversation with two police officers, I thanked them and told them that their work is much appreciated. We joked a bit and then one of the officers told me to report any odd activity, he qualified this by saying that they are concerned with protecting the demonstrators. Freedom of assembly is our right. Again, I ask what would Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. think of your statement ?

Wow, i was reading about this the other day (im a little behind on my current events...) and i thought i would be the only one to think that shes not being "patriotic"... and im thinking the same thing as ImmortalDissident is. It's not like she even cared until her son died. As much as you probably think im too young to care, i've cared about this issue since the war began, and i didn't have to have anyone close to me die to get into it. This world and the people in it are all we've got, so why can't we just help bring this war (and all others like it) to an end? sorry if im rambling.... its a little bit late.

 

It seems bizarre to me that rightwing creeps hold Cindy Sheehan to a higher standard than the President of the United States. Bush went on national television to warn the US that Iraq was likely to attack and destroy America using nuclear weapons- and people have the gall to waste a moment criticizing Cindy Sheehan?

I'll take Cindy Sheehan over Bush's cocaine paranoia any day.
