Does it piss you off?

Does it piss you off when you use a friend's computer and see that it's ridiculously slow, full of spyware, and has absolutely no protection.

It truly gets to me... I've been using a couple of friends' computers at their houses... and they don't even have a firewall installed.

It's so easy to keep a computer running without fucking up, it truly amazes me how people can be so careless with it.

 

but you forget people are stupid, not all but the majority just dont take the time to learn the basics of anything

 

My mom and my sister, especially my sister, fuck up their computer every single day. I mean, constantly. Every hour I go in there and fix something that they ruined beyond belief. I'm going to start charging for that shit. I work on those computers more in an hour then somebody in the fucking Geek Squad does the entire day.

It also makes me mad that I have friends calling me every day asking to "just fix it," and then I go over there and they'll have no firewall, no anti-spyware, and no anti-virus even though I have warned them about the dangers of this and even sent them links to freeware programs to protect their computer. And then they give me an extra kick in the teeth when they do stupid shit like refuse to stop using LimeWire because they are too moronic to figure out bittorrent, and everything else I've warned them about. I've told them that if they aren't going to listen to my advice, then STFU and do NOT expect me to "just fix it" when you are a dipshit.

 

I have a few friends that just go out every other year and buy a new computer. I do get pissed when I go over straighten them out and try to instruct them on proper maintenance and they just roll their eyes.

But then they usually give me their old machines, so I rob the ram and whatever else I can use and say no more. It's their loss.

Problem is though they usually buy the cheapest box they can from one of the big stores, so most of the components are shit to begin with.

 

I actually borrowing a frends at this moment while mine is down. But then, I tought him about internet safety. You know. Anti-Virus, how to set-up firewall in Norton. Crap like that.

 

I just put my moms computer on freebsd...

My mom had issues that always seem to come back. I installed Fedora Core 5 a while back and she hasnt had a problem since.

My sister had problems too. She bought a Mac so all her problems are solved.

 

Yeah limewire is getting fucked up beyond belief by the spam/tracers on it, but I mean even with a little common sense you could still use it without any problems.

 

computer security is as good as the person who run the system but going online without a condom is asking for problems these days....

 

Using Limewire is one of the worst things you can do. That alone will cause problems regaudless of what and when and how you download. Just installing Limewire is a problem.

ok so there's this guy who insists on burning me a copy of Limewire Pro, I keep telling him no thx but he persists, he seems to wanna impress me or something.

I'll never install any ver of LW but what can I tell him, that is, is Pro just as bad. I'd hate to see a good CD go to waste.

 

Tell him you bought LW, decided it was crap and deleted it. If he still insists, tell him you have been having connectivity problems. Ask him if he could put copies of all your favorite sites on disk for such times. That should keep him busy.

 

Just tell him you appreciate the help but you don't need it.

If he still persists tell him assertively to leave you alone about it. It doesn't matter what version of Limewire it is.

No, Add. They aren't 'stupid'. They just never had anyone teach them things like this.
One day, they'll come to you for advise on this stuff. Charge 'em for it if you want, but give the lessons that you can give.

 

Yeah tell me about it. I'm not amazing with all the protection and stuff, but some stuff I've seen on friend's computers is pretty damn dodgy.

 

yeah, apparently i'm the 'fix it' dude if anything goes wrong. my parents and my sister are always coming to me with problems about their computers running too slow.

but seriously, i have less problems, and i download full programs, tons of music, movies, emulators+roms... and this shit almost NEVER happens to me. every once in a blue moon i have to reformat just because I have so much shit that i don't know where to start deleting. but most of that spyware/adware/malware stuff is bullshit.

 

...unless, of course, you use LIMEWIRE.

 

Limewire is so behind the times, it's like Bearshare, and all the old crap that no one uses anymore. The only ones that still upload are those out to pick up dumb pirateers. So use it and become one of the damned. I can't believe the number of people that pay to download the pro version????
