    Hi all

Just put some beads in today, coz I'm almost at my one year dreadiversary (yayyyyy).

Am I supposed to leave the beads in when I wash my hair?
    Or will that destroy/discolour them?

They're wooden ones, I'll just be using Dr Bronner's.

    Thanks in advance :p

    Peace xox

I wouldn't worry about it, it would actually take years of abuse for the wood to grow mold and rot and thats even a long shot at best. if your truly worried about it you should look into getting glass or whale bone beads,

for me.. taking them out every time you wash would get old fast, wouldn't put them in unless i was prepared to leave them in .

    peace

I never take my beads out when I wash. It hasn't caused any problems.

i had a wood bead in when i had my dreads. i had it in for a few months and it started smelling. if your worried about beads getting smelly and moldy, i go with glass beads. keep those dreads clean

How do you get the beads to stay in? At this point, my dreads are still loopy and fat and fuzzy and still shrinking. I can just slide a bead over a dread and just position it where I want and it will pretty much stay. But what about once the locks are tight? How do you get the beads to stay??

I think it just depends on the dread thickness and the bed hole. You sometimes have to hunt around for the right fit.

If they are painted you might have issues. If not, you're fine.

Yeah I think mine are painted, and even after a day they're starting to speckle....damn...

Ah well, might just have to hunt around for some glass ones or something.

If you put a bead in while its still forming, it will stay there and the hair will grow outwards so the bead with stay. Also if he bead is light enough, it will stay on its own until the hair "eats it up" if you will.

I got a couple of Jade stone beads and I never take them out, no problem of any kind. Stone is perfect and they look great.
