Possibly a dumb question, but one I am unsure of. I know we've all seen those anti-pot commercials saying weed is far more damaging to your lungs than cigarettes, yadda yadda yadda... However, lately this is a concern of mine. After seeing what I'm coughin up, I am worried for my health. I have been smokin pot somewhat regularly for probably 10 years now (I'm 23, not 27), and I'm concerned about getting lung cancer. Recently, I read somewhere that weed does NOT cause lung cancer. I read that Radium 266, and Polonium 210, which are radioactive elements found in cigarettes, but NOT in weed, were what caused lung cancer. The article stated that tar is not what causes lung cancer, it is only those radioactive elements found WITHIN the tar of cigarettes that do. I'm not sure what to believe, I cant imagine that smoking ANYTHING wouldn't harm your health, but what do I know? Hoping some of you guys could clear this up for me. If you've got a source to re-inforce your claim, that'd be great, thanks
no the heat of the smoke burns your lungs and dries the fluids out of them very slowly over time which may make it harder to do intense exercise after years of smoking
dude, if you only smoke pot then I dont think you should worry about your health that much. Just think about the fact that there are ppl who smoke 30 cigarettes a day for decades and are fine. 2-3 joints aday would be nothing compared...
It's only a bitch when you smoke cigarettes AND marijuana. But maybe as TNS mentioned - whatever cancer cells I have in my lungs, will be destroyed by the THC. So, either way, as long as I keep on toking, I'll never die of lung cancer.
Haha, I guess this was a foolish question... Anyways thats sweet, and thats just the answer I was hoping for. Hey TNS, can you link me to a source for that one? If THC kills lung cancer... well, thats just about the sweetest thing I've ever heard. Not only is it the best plant on the planet... it also kills cancer What more could you ask for?
Just for the record I have never met someone that smoked cigarettes for decades that was "fine". They all have health problems.
I'll see if I can find it, but if I can't, pretty much all of the veteran members here have seen the articles posted and they can vouch for it. BRB.
Here's one article. You can find more, if you'd like. http://www.sierratimes.com/03/11/07/article_kubby.htm
He's right. There are a whole host of other health conditions that may arise as a result of smoking cigarettes. Lung cancer isnt the only serious condition caused by smoking. Those cigs are bad news... Anyways, thanks TNS. Are you sure it came from a legit source though? I mean, it seems like this would be all over every pro-marijuana site on the internet, and from my searching (basically limited to google haha), I can't seem to find it anywhere... EDIT: Nevermind, you snuck that last one in before my post Thanks for the source
Wow, this is unbelievable. The government would rather let its citizens die a slow and painful death, than legalize a fucking PLANT. This is a fucked up country indeed.
I can vouch if needed, and I'll provide another link becuase the other drug forum I frequent is pretty high-strung about providing a source for everything. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/17/health/webmd/main2696726.shtml another article saying it may fight alzheimer's: http://www.drugsandbooze.com/showthread.php?t=14592 source: http://www.livescience.com/humanbiology/061005_alzheimers_marijuana.html
It's pretty bold to state that marijuana cures lung cancer. Certainly, the effects can alleviate some symptoms, but even the journal article (which is linked to in the article posted [http://americanmarijuana.org/Guzman-Cancer.pdf]) by Guzman in Nature Review states that "Cannabanoids ... have been shown to inhibit the growth of tumour cells in culture and animal models." This quote was taken from the abstract, but I'm pretty sure the author would mention the revelation of the cure for cancer through marijuana if it were a part of his article, because that seems like it would be a big deal.
Nobody said it CURES lung cancer. We simply said that THC destroys cancer cells. Who knows though.....maybe the cure for cancer can be found in marijuana.
You're right, but i think that it's still relevant to mention specifically that it hasn't destroyed cancer cells within a human subject yet. I don't think that the article implied, as somebody else speculated, that smoking marijuana will actually kill cancer cells in your lungs if you have lung cancer. Maybe it can be found in marijuana; that would definitely be cool, but I don't think that it will happen soon if it really is possible because enough people wouldn't become wealthier from it.
THC does not kill cancer cells, so if you smoke ciggarettes and weed than weed is not necessarily preventing you from getting lung cancer. It definetly slows down the growth of tumors though, so I suppose it could prevent tumors to some extent also? Check the harvard website as a source, they did a study on this
Ahh, I see So it HASNT destroyed cancer cells in humans? Or were humans just not used as test subjects? Either way, something that slows down cancerous tumor growth is a GOOD thing.
Yea, there is extensive evidence that weed does not cause lung cancer, so I wouldnt worry The heat of the smoke is bad for your lungs but certinaly not carcinogenic
